I've the aforementioned, Honest To God, H&G bevel based mold gifted me from the estate of my shooting mentor.

While I'm certainly handy, it needs some work replacing the frozen hinge bolt that I am just not comfortable doing.

Suggestions for where to send it for repair?

Tanks.

Greetings,

Apply Kroil to the frozen bolt and wait one day.

Then, gently move the screw forth and back to see if it will start to move.

If yes, apply more Kroil and move the screw forth and back gently.

Hopefully, the Kroil will penetrate further into the threads and with patience you will be able to remove it.

On assembly, put a little anti-seize on the thread.

Cheers,

Dave

On top of the aforementioned kroil process, I’d also recommend using a Chapman (or similar) style ratcheting screw driver and making sure the bit fits the screw head perfectly. Using this for the back and forth motion should help keep bolt intact. I’ve found over the years that their little ratchet handle allows for a lot of clean force to be applied evenly to keep from damaging the head and freeing rusty threads without twisting off the head.

Might be Erik could help over at holowpointmolds.com but not sure if that’s up his alley?

Are you talking about the hinge bolt in the handle or the screw that the spue plate swivels on?

I would soak in penararting oil for say a week and try removal with a proper fit fit.

Now if this does not work you have two options, #1apply heat to the area and try turning the bolt

#2 find location on a mill/drill and drill out with a left handed drill.

Is the sprue plate too loose or tight to cast? Brass brush and some oil should get rust off and clear your vent lines. Heat cycle with lead your casting with. Lube with 2 cycle synthetic oil after it's up to temp. See how it works. If the sprue plate is too loose or tight, then you don't want to gouge the mold blocks or sprue plate. I soaked one in Ed's Red for 3 months to get screws to loosen up.

Definitly soak in Kroil or your favorite. I found a 1/4 in Impact Driver at Harbor Freight that works really great for stubborn screws. But be gentle with the hammer, I usually use a 4 oz to start. GW
