So I will be using these in a cap and ball .36cal converted to 38 special with and unlined barrel. These are Rapine molds and I have the 358-149 and 358-158 and this one is the one I figure I will use the most, the 149 one. It drops at .365 and weighs 157gr. My question is do I need to use pure lead here exclusively or is there a certain BHN I should aim for? Will be using smokeless and also BP.

Good looking bullet. Factory soft-swaged .38 Special HBWC bullets are about 8 BHN, so that is a good goal. 1:30 tin-lead casts well and will give you that approximate hardness A 50-50 blend of COWW and plumber's lead with 1% tin added will do likewise.

Any of your sub-10BHN "junk" alloys should work fine.

The Brits were officially into 12-1 for the .455 Webley hollow bases for reasons best known to them, but WWI caused them to see better uses for their tin elsewhere, and most of WWI was fought with something closer to pure.

As I recall, for my last run of Webley HB's, I used jacketed range scrap, which is low-antimony content at 8.5BHN air cooled and 9 water dropped, mixed with enough tin to get it to behave in the mold.
