Had an urge a few years ago to try something different. The 6.5 Grendel was starting to get popular in ARs but I wanted something similar in an AK. So, heavy 20" barrel chambered in custom 6.5X39. Custom reloading dies. Dies and chamber reamer were set up to utilize 7.62X39 brass just necked down without having to inside neck ream - just resize and load. Load data was similar to Grendel but slightly reduced powder charges due to slightly reduced case capacity.

Rifle itself is a highly modded AK. Standard receiver, AK bolt and PSL bolt carrier with heavy barrel. Used PSL stock, gas tube and handguard and a Yankee Hill flash hider with standard AK style scope rail. Feeds from a standard AK magazine.

Initial loads were okay but nothing spectacular. Still need to do load work up for best accuracy loads.

Looks like the bulged trunnion but a square back receiver. Did you start with a Yugo, RPK, or build from the ground up? Either way, very well done!

My mistake, it was an RPK receiver.

Did you use M72 barrel components to accept that heavy barrel or open up standard parts? Standard PSL piston?

Very nice
What twist rate did you use?
Jacketed or cast to start with?
If cast, what mold and who's gas checks?
Thank you
Mike
