My 10 year old daughter got her first buck this morning with a cast boolit in 300 blackout! She made a 25 yard shot through the bread basket and with a quick high kick he made a mad dash through the woods for about 40 yards where he piled up.
The boolit is a Lee 309-200r at 1070 fps with an 8.2 grain charge of Lil’ Gun and cast of soft lead.

I’ve got one happy girl!

PS I got it skinned tonight and added pictures of the entrance and exit wounds, the entrance is the one with the scalpel next to it.

Congrats to the young lady and also to you for your teachings. Did she help field dressing the deer and was the boolit recovered?

Thats a nice deer! Gonna make all the boys gealous.

And look at that smile...dad ur gonna be in trouble in a few years...when she wants to skip school to go hunting, or a new rifle.

Tell us more about the rifle, and how you set it up for her.

I am continually surprised by the effectiveness of the .300 Blackout on deer. There are many tales of its success. I don't know why I am though. The case is nearly identical in capacity wit the .357 Magnum. Just uses a slightly smaller diameter boolit. Maybe I have been influenced by the performance of subsonic loads.

The rifle is just an inexpensive PSA upper on a no name lower with a form 1 suppressor. It’s normally my truck gun for around the farm but with its minimal recoil and report it works great for younger shooters. This is the 4th deer that this boolit and powder combination have taken and this guy probably ran about the farthest of all of them.

She stood by closely while I field dressed it and she asked all kinds of questions! I haven’t recovered any boolits from this combo yet but we haven’t skinned him out yet and to be honest I didn’t check him over that close for an exit wound.

Congrats to your Daughter.
My little girl (35) had her third hunting season this year. She has never even seen a deer from our box blind. Until our last day of the season. She passed on mister big because he didn't give her a good enough shot.
Maybe next year she will be as proud as your little girl.

Way to shoot, little Diana!
That makes me want to take my .300BO deer hunting for sure.
Well done, Dad.
I remember my oldest daughter's first buck about 20 years ago like it was yesterday. One shot with a Mauser 98 22-250 worked like magic.
