Am casting boolits for my 450Marlin project gun 1/22twist26". started with my only 45 mould a 457122 340hp with WW+2%tin. Want to get this boolit to 2000fps for hunting whitetails. The ? is will this alloy stand up to this and expand on a whitetail or what alloy to make to try also???? clint:castmine:

Good afternoon
Well that out to THUMP the snot out of any corn muncher !
I have not tried to push that boolit that fast. But waterdropped WW with Blue Lube (I forgot the Comp. Name) will get to 1850 out of my 1886 (Jap) Lightweight. I did not think I needed any more FPS... I figured I was already 300 fps faster than the old 45-90 load and that would tunnel through Buffs.
But with the high tech lubes out there it should do it. I do not know if the boolit carries enough lube for that long of barrel at that pressure ? Before I touched the first round off I would be inclined to rub some lube about the nose and hand load it into the chamber. Then check the muzzle area for any leading.
As far as expansion... you wont need any... but if you hit the shoulder knuckle you may just drive it clear through the chest. Are your deer wearing 1/2 plate ?
Should really wake up the neighborhood ..

In reality you get 1 maybe 2 shots at a deer here in MI before they are out of sight, so make your hunting bullet 50/50 WW and pure. That will expand.

I am getting 2100+ with a 325gr Hammer bullet out of my 450 Marlin with a 22" barrel.

I actually use the loads listed on Ranch Dogs site for reference, I use H322. 52.5-53gr gets me about 2100fps. I dont shoot it that much and I havent found the perfect load yet but Im getting there.
