Our (zone 2) KY rifle season starts saturday! About time since we ran out of meat 3 weeks ago(we ate 12 deer last year…3 growing boys and a wife who is on some new fad diet). But this year I am going to be hunting with my TC compass in 308 with a 1/12 twist using the NOE ranch dog shallow HP over 37.5 grn of Varget. This load will shoot one hole 5 round groups at 100 and keep 3” at 200.
Every year I kill a deer with a Military surplus rifle. This year it is going to be a Jap Arisaka last ditch that I’ve got loaded with a NOE 311-175NLG FN that I kept unsized. Over 16 grn of 2400 in a 270 converted case. I have t put it on paper but at 100 yards I can hit my 4” plate every time, so that’s good enough for a 35 yard tree stand shot

What are y’all using this year(or did use)

Hello fellow Kentuckian! I am going to use my 1873 Springfiield Trapdoor carbine this season. Load will be with the Lee 500 gr bullet. In the past I have used a M-95 Chilean Mauser in 7x57mm, An M-1A in .308, and an 8x57mm M-98 Mauser. Good luck this season, hope you fill your freezer.

We have to fill 25 deer tags to give the meat to folks in our church. We always start off with fun things like a spear or blowgun or atlatl and then the boys start getting out the 50-70 or 43 Spanish or whatever tickles their fancy that day.
