You’ve got something wrong if your scope is that far off after sitting for a month. Different ammo? Drastically different environmental conditions? Dropped the gun? Loose scope mounts?

My thoughts question if the firearm was dropped; I'd question an ammo switch to make that much of a change. You offered not the firearm, calibre, range -- or -- the 'scope involved. In my more mobile days it was almost a given to do the "buck before a buck check" before each day hunting. (Tack/stick a U S dollar bill onto a tree, and walk but 25 normal steps away. Aim right at centre photo and if the bullet hit just-about the bill's edge -- top or bottom -- withing maybe 1/4" - we were set to go. Amazing were the number of times the bullet hole could not be found (generally from a rifle/'scope drop) or ????. And -- on the occasions (yes, there were a few) when the bullet passed between the top and bottom of the bill -- (yes - you hear it coming) -- the day would be a good one as we started out shooting a buck...)

Holy Moly!!! That's a very good ad for not having exposed turrets!!! (Not sure if you do). I have a little sheet inside of the scoped rifle safe that has a photo of each scope's turrets 'zeroed out' that we reference before going afield. It's incredible how many times we'll see a turret still dialed to whatever yards from a previous range session.

I must have changed ammo is my thought but I do not know for certain
I go through all my rifles that I care to use that season so I am glad I found this before it was any closer to the opening of 11-20 general firearms season for whitetail

Check your sight bases. They are more likely to be lose, than the scope changing that much.

I doubt if it was just from a different load. I’ll assume the scope is .25” per click at 100 yards? If so, you were off five inches for twenty clicks at 100 yards! Something’s “off” with your gun/scope for that to happen I believe.

nope , scope and mounts are fine
different powder charge different bullet
can definitely change the point of aim
seen it happen more than once
but I will recheck everything again and again but thats the way I do things
going to shoot it again today bout an hour anyone want to go?

I had a Burris 6x Fullfield that unsighted itself in the gun rack. I sent it to Burris and they said" it's OK". I said wait a week and test it again. They called a week later and said sure enough, it did it for them. Then they offered a new Fullfield 2 6x at no charge. Going on twelve years with no problems with the new one.

An ammo-related POI shift is normally in elevation, not windage, and definitely not that much.

If you have an extra rifle, might want to take it to the range too and get it ready.

Changing bullet brands/ weights, powder brands/ #, seating depths certainly can change elevation and windage by 1 to 5 inches or more. Has been doing that for a long long time. But age of reloads not so much, like 10 or 15 or more years.

strictly speaking of Kimbers, they have pencil thin barrels and are quite 'finicky' on a good day, particularly temp, but harmonics are exaggerated the longer the barrel is, a 280 might be 22? or 24, changing a projectile weight would cause a fair different vibe, let alone powder charges. :)

That's a pretty drastic jump.

When I was hunting, I'd get my zero with the same ammo I was going to hunt with,
and always carried a small, el cheapo bore scope to double check with after I got to camp.

When changing ammo, bullet weight, bullet type, bullet brand, I've found many point of impact shifts over the many years. Going from a Speer 150 boattail to a Speer 150 flatbase would give me a 3" impact shift at 100 yards in a 300 Savage, my Savage 99 358 will shift 12" at 100 yards going from 200 Hornady's to 225 Sierra's. I just expect impact shifts when changing loads. In my experience, lighter thinner barrels shift more than the 'standard' or heavier contour barrels. I put a small label on each rifle with the load information of the last sight-in. I have little trouble with bumps bothering a solidly mounted scope of high quality.

normally I keep my hunting ammo aside but for whatever reason
I did not do that this time, lesson learned
didn't make it to the range today but will go tomorrow if you want to go
