Hi, and greetings from Spain
Iīm mid new to cast bullets and i need to know how much pure lead (pipe lead and sticks wheel weights) can I mix with linotipe metal to cast bullets for shoot calibers like 32 sw long wc, 38 sp swc and 9 mm parab 124, all under 1100 fps. I know that cast pure linotipe for this calibers it is expensive and not ok.
How many pounds I have to mix lead/linotipe to alloy nš2 for example?
I need to take the maximum linotipia mixed with pure lead to the future.
Thanks guys.

I mixed half and half Lino and lead and got about a 15 BHN. A bit higher than wanted maybe.

...............I think the 32 and the 38 you can get by with some real soft lead, but the 9mm you may want a little harder because of the high pressure, depending how hard you push them. Lets leave the 32 & 38 for others that have experience in those cals.

Sizing to match your 9s chamber is going to be the answer, alone with enough wumfff to make your action work reliably. You don't want to push 9mm to 35,000 psi with lead.

I loaded for the forty cal, but it was a balancing act between the right hardness, powder, seating depth, sizing. There were times i would shoot 10 rounds and had more lead in the barrel than down range. When i got it right i could shoot 300 rds and not even clean the barrel. Seems to me i used alloys of about 15-20 BHN for the forty

Be sure to write down all your notes in a log for each 9mm weapon.

Good luck and enjoy that Spain weather.

I use 5 lbs ww to 1 lb linotype. Somewhere many years ago I was told that was Lyman #2 hardness with that ratio.....works for me.

From Lyman handbook #44:

4 lbs. linotype \
1 lb. 50/50 solder > makes 10 lbs. #2 alloy
5 lbs. lead /

50/50 lino/lead = 92-6-2 (Teracorp Magnum Bullet Alloy) good for 9mm, 40S&W and 357mag.

5 parts lead to 1 part lino is very close to WW alloy. (a little more Sn, a little less Sb)

I use 1 part lino to two parts pure lead with zero leading. I sometimes add about a foot of 95/5 solder to a 20# pot if the mold does not fill well. Also, sized and lubed with LLA...

for the most part other then your 9mm pure lead is proably all you need. 9mms are a funny bread though and if your looking for accuracy they tend to like hard bullets. If you just want your gun to go bang mix 1 part lyno to 5 parts lead. If your looking for accuracy mix it 5050 Id about bet the 5050 alloy will be more accurate in all of your guns if that matters.

Hi guys.
I mixed yesterday lino (23 bhn) and lead (6 bhn) 50/50 and this alloy have a 16 bhn (lee bhn tester) and I think that itīs good for 9mm or 357, itīs like around hard ball or lyman nš2.
Then I mixed ww(12 bhn) and lead 50/50 and have a 9 bhn and I want to know that Itīs good for a 38 sp wad cutter and 32 s&w long wad cutter with low charges to precision at 25 meters (260-280 m/s) bascause I have factory bullet in this calibers with a 10 to 11 bhn.
Thanks for all.
