So I thoughtI was settled on using the Lyman 452460 ~200 grain SWC for all of my .45 ACP needs. Then today I found a Modern Bond 452-660 DC, complete with handles for $35.

It looks like it should be somewhere around a 230 grain RN. I'll find out later this week.

The way the blocks attach to the handles is a bit different, but the handles themselves are a work of art. They make RCBS handles look like two cavity Lee's. Very solid feel to them.

Got a 30 cal in 190 gr in a Modern Bond. You are right, they are very solid units. Different but quite classy!

Well I warmed the new to me Modern Bond up today. Good news/ bad news.

The good news is that I filled the mold 9 times and got 18 semi decent boolits from it. One half of one cavity almost likes to stick, but it always dropped free on the second tap of a rawhide mallet.

The bad news is that when I went to weigh and measure them they weighed 245 +/- a few tenths, then I measured. 0.455" at the parting line, okay. 0.462" 90 degrees from the parting line. Needs a bit of work, but if I get the size right, the weight may be more in line with what I think it should be.

I'm a real fan of the Modern Bond molds in .38 caliber. Many years ago I bought their molds in the 358582 (150 gr.) and 358627 (160 gr.) patterns. While advertised as WC designs the nose sections of these molds is just small enough that it does not contact the bore when fired. I think of these as SWC profile with maximum nose diameter. I also have their 358775 SWC mold (155 gr.) to complement the WC patterns. My favorite of all is the 358582 (150 gr.) which is usually found in a S&W J-frame which travels with me frequently.
