6mm Acorn Blanks???

Recently went searching for the 6mm acorn blanks we powder-burners use as primers in rimfire adapters. Usual source was OOS, no backorder. Found them at AirgunDepot.

Question is: What are YOU guys using them for ?

I have a bunch of Remington 580s that I have accumulated over the years. I have been wondering if building one into a small inline muzzleloader and using those blanks for primers might work. They used to be black powder and now most seem to be loaded with smokeless, I don't know if they would work as a primer or not.

They're so short (.206" long x .223 diameter) that they'd be almost impossible to get into the 580's chamber. I've used nailgun blanks which are 2x-3x as long in my .25 Stevens rimfire single shots, and even those are a PITA. I have to use forcepts, and when they extract they fall into the action. Forcepts again.

If you can solve that problem, they might work.

As far as I know acorn blanks have no powder, just priming compound.

I usually find them at Cabelas or Bass pro around here. Used to project training dummies for dog training a lot. I use them in 25 and 32 rimfire all the time

What size nailgun blank for a 25 cal Favorite? i've looked for the "brown" labeled loads and I can only find them in strip packaging. Green one's are available in 100 packs, like bulk .22 ammo.

The .27 caliber size for .25 Stevens. In the small Stevens "boys' rifles" like Crackshot and Favorite stick to the lowest two power levels. There's a long thread on the ASSRA site covering all sorts of ways of making the old .25 rimfires speak again.

poster ndnchf has surpasses us all by swaging down and trimming .22 Hornet brass, and then forming a pocket for the 6mm blank on center, which is easy. Turns out that the firing pin of a .25 is usually tall enough to catch a .22 rim. If not it's a simple modification that doesn't alter the breechblock. See post #10 on this thread:

Perhaps because they can make money selling them?

Maybe your question could be answered on one of the dedicated air gun forums. My money would go on it's just merchandise that can be sold.
