View Full Version : 215 gr. .41 Special Data?

Howdy, friends.

I just acquired a 4 5/8" Blackhawk in .41 magnum. I want to apply it to cowboy action shooting and I'm hoping to find bunny fart loads with Unique, 700x or WST.

My first loads will be with a case full of American Pioneer Powder, but some smokeless would be nice.

I have 100 new Starline .45 Special cases, as well as 125 .41 magnum brass.

I also have some Trail Boss, but I'm hoarding it for my .45 Colts.

I would try 5.7-6.0 grains of unique or 4.5-5.0 grains of 700X. You might be able to go a little lower with Unique, perhaps as low as 5.5 grains, but You may find that to be pretty dirty.

Trick with any powder for low velocity rounds is a good solid crimp and tight bullet pull between the case and the bullet. This gives the powder more time/resistance to burn thoroughly.

You should be able to run 5.0 of Unique or 700X with .41 Special cases and have a pretty clean load.

I saw another source that suggested 4.0 gn of Bullseye. I had forgot that I had any.
