Problem with Thompson Center Encore?

Had a case head separation the other day with mine in 06. powder is no where near max, load i've used for years with no issues. checking the other cases with the hornady headspace gauge i'm showing some of fire brass at 2.052. Out of my loaded ammo i found two that where sized too much, which could explain the separation. brass is 3 fired out of that same gun, FL sized.

Anyone else experience a chamber with excessive room like that? my other 06 do not show that significant of a shoulder after firing. ordered a neck sizer so to try dedicated brass for just that rifle with some new once fired.

Anyone else have a TC with a roomy chamber?

If your sizing die is set up correctly, how can you size them too much? Owning a couple of Encores and several different barrels, I can tell you that the head space can be excessive depending on the barrel and your frame. It’s pretty easy to adjust the headspace on an Encore, and easy to check it with a headspace gage. Go on-line and watch Bellm’s videos on checking and adjusting headspace on an Encore. If it’s too long, he sells shims to adjust it. It’s an easy fix.

I neck size everything I load for my Contenders and Encores.

I either have messed up setting the sizing die at some point or changed a variable without checking sizing dimensions……

Will find that video, saw the barrel frame gap, checked that, no issues.

A lot also depends on how many loadings the brass has gone through, I load .223 middle of the road and every once in a while I'll have a head separate, since I don't pay attention to how many times I reload my pieces I know that is the cause, when I'm taking the brass from the tumbler after cleaning any I see that might cause a problem goes in the junk brass bucket.
If it's new or once fired and you don't have access to a no-go gauge you can put some masking tape on a round and see if you can close the action, if it closes you have excessive head space.

Do you have more than one '06? Was that brass shot in another chamber first, then full sized? If your die was set for another rifle that could explain these results.

I’m thinking it’s a combo of an inspec but generous chamber with repeated (x3x) FL sided brass.. shot some out of my bolt 06, gauge was consist at .047 after firing, might take it to the smiths for a no go gauge check

encores can be tricky critters to set your dies up for
I had some case separations in different barrels once
you figure out how to set them up it's a breeze
