has anyone tried using pistol projectiles in a 410 before ?

Good morning...
No But I did load some .375 a while ago.
Is this a rifled barrel or smoothbore ?
What is MOST important is to measure accurately the CHOKE of the shotgunif it is a smoothbore. If a rifled barrel slug the bore. This is just like loading a rifle. The wad + projectile must pass through that restriction. I have ONLY used cast soft lead and have found with my usage a OVERBORE of .005 to work real well. .007 was OK but if you get over .007 pressure starts to rise.
So measure the choke or barrel. Then measure wad x 2 + projectile. If TOTAL projectile diameter is less than .003 I would wrap the projectile in paper to get it up to diameter. A LOOSE projectile will not fly straight.
That is the basics... Start out your powder charge at minimum and work up .... If you change any componets start the powder charge all over again. Remember that shotgun barrel is THIN. You do not have a lot of metal to be playing "High Pressure" hotrod.
God Bless You !

There is a wad out that you use a "ball for the slug" for 410. I think BPI makes it.

The 357 bullets will work in a 410 shot cup but I dont think 2 or 3 stacked would do very good . But you can try it . The .375 balls work stacked 4 in a 3in but you have to cut petles off cup.

When I was a kid we had a Marbles "Game Getter" around the barn for pests. It had a .22 barrel with a ".44 shot" barrel under it. I don't recall what the specified ammunition was for the shot barrel, but if I remember correctly, we fired both .410 shot cartridges and .44 WCF "ball", (a 44/40 loaded with a round lead ball) cartridges out of it.

Now fast forward to the present, I bought 2 boxes of Alcan .410 cardboard wads, (for use in paper shells) from the "bargain bin" at my local gun shop a few years ago, they work perfectly for loading .44 Magnum shot cartridges, ( one over powder and one with a normal roll crimp over shot). I think with the proper size round ball over a cardboard over powder wad may work. DO NOT use a modern plastic cup wad with snug fitting round balls! Load as if you were loading PAPER shells, although there's no need for an over shot wad, and you should be able to star crimp them in the normal fashion. You should be able to buy or make a wad punch of the proper size and use heavy cardboard to make your own wads...All you need is the proper size round ball mold.

Be carefull of the choke . A .375 ball will just go through a full choke . A choke bore will let a 357 bullet and shot cup through .

I have loaded .375 soft lead Mini-Ball conical rounds with a lee handloader. using a full double scoop of red dot and plastic wad cup.

shot in a break action single shot Savage with heavy steel barrel

They are accurate to within 1 beer can at 100yard and crack like a rifle going off
