Gday keen to do some readin but interested in old lever gun cartridges and cast boolit deer and elk type game hunts an of course photos.
Anyone using older 38-55 or 375Wins ? 35 rems or 44 of flavour ,or even the big 45s ? what about 357 an cast for whitetails or muleys?

load dat an rifle specs etc .. ?

Im currently doin a bit of hunting with my model 94 375 win, i load 20gr of 4198 with 245gr hard cast an its only reent i loaded it down to 38-55 spec but it seems to do a good job at 100m or so, in which i use the rifle, open sighted.

the bigger deer have ran a short distance an piled up, the smaller fallow have DRT at times with high shoulder.

keen to hear what you use an how it works for you !

I shot a Winchester Crazyhorse commemorative for a number of years. I really enjoyed that rifle. It slugged .379 and shot the Beartooth bullets very well. Only managed to kill a few groundhogs with it. I plan to take a lever action 25-35 deer hunting this year. I was able to buy a very nice Ideal 257306 mold and the 20” Winchester likes the boolit.

I had a Rossi M92 357mag that my youngest son took his first deer with, 3pt Idaho Mule deer, . The load was as much wc820 as I could compress under a 180gn cast, C358-180RF. I don't remember the velocity, but the primers were flat. Anyway, it dropped at the shot. It was very near his birthday so I gave him the rifle on the mountain.

I have used my Henry in 45colt to get 2 or 3 woodchucks, one was a 65 yr shot, using a lee 452-200- RF. Powder was either unique or red dot. I've used the lee 452-255-RF to take one doe. Charge was unique.

HD.375, Thanks for your story.
My story and pics of whitetail buck taken with Model 94 356Win and hardcast RCBS 35-200-FN is on Our Town/Helping Hands thread - WTT 750 Thermometer for First Cast Bullet Hunt Story.

I've killed pigs and mulies with my 35rem Marlin 336. 215grn as cast RCBS 35-200 mold. Doing about 1800fps. Dropped two mule deer with my Winchester High Wall 38-55. Lee 255grn .379 bevel base doing about 1600fps, dropped a mulie buck with my Ruger GP100 shooting 148grn button nosed wadcutter at 1300fps. And a mulie buck this year with my Henry single shot 357mag shooting a lee 358-158 gas check at 1500fps. My GF killed a WT buck with her Marlin 1894 in .357mag using the same 158grn load. I have a few pics, lol.
