I am almost embarrassed to say, that as long as I've been into this realm I have never shipped a firearm. I sold my first on Gunbroker this weekend. It did extremely well, so I will likely be doing it again. I know from poking around that some places will ship long guns, but not hand guns. Some will ship them, but only from select locations. Which service have you guys found to be the best, factoring in ease of transaction, cost, and service?

I have a Fedex drop center very near my home, which would be best if their service is decent.

Greetings,

My friend packs the long guns in old cardboard carpet tubes with wooden plugs in each end.

He then ships them via USPS Registered Mail.

You can ship long guns legally via USPS, not handguns.

Registered mail requires everyone that handles the package sign for it in the log.

Technically, the package is to be stored in the office safe when not being handled.

Cheers,

Dave

its my understanding that you can ship a long gun Via. USPS for repair. BUT, you cannot sell thru USPS. to sell a gun it must go to a FFL dealer. if you sold and used USPS to ship or any other carrier, it must go to a dealer who then contacts the buyer.

I sent a bunch through Fedex
gave up on sending through ups when the dim wit girl
behind the counter didn't know the first thing about long guns
much less about the shipping of black powder rifles
see thought I needed to be a FFL to ship
and just the feeling I got when I told her what I was shipping you would
have though that I was a terrorist or had the plague or something similar

That's interesting as I just had a revolver delivered to my house by USPS a couple of days ago.

if you had a handgun sent to your home; someone made a huge illegal mistake

If it was a BP wheelgun, then he's golden, otherwise he skirted rules.

If it was being returned from a gunsmith, or you have a C&R license, they can be sent to your home address.

You hit it. It was a Webley Mark VI from WWII sent to my C&R FFL but is was still sent through USPS. ;)

Where's the popcorn??

These threads are always fun...and almost always full of bad/incorrect info.
