Need some help

So my father passed away last week suddenly during surgery. He was an avid shooter, reloader, and ballistic specialist (helped design testing labs for bullet proof vests as well as other things).

He was truly a genius and my hero in many things. So when my Mom asked me to clean out one of his desks and I came across this coin next to a wooden pen I had turned for him. It meant a lot to me to find these together and now I’m trying to find out what the story is.

Can anyone help me track down where this is from?

As a side note, my father was doing what he loved all the way to the end. I was able to put his final custom 1911 together, which I found in pieces on his bench, and when I pulled his LabRadar Chronograph data I saw he was testing just 5 days before his passing.

Probably a medallion given to Mil. during combat, who knows who gave them out.

I did a reverse Google image search and nothing specific about that Coin came up. I suspect it's a "keep sake" Gift, that a Spouse, Child, Sibling, or Parent would give a Soldier that is being deployed. Lot's of Gifts have similar sayings. You'll have to fill in the blanks for us.

Sorry to hear about your dad passing, StuBach. It's always hard to lose a loved one. I have one of my dad's hammers, keep it in my workshop, I think of him every time I have to use it. He passed in 2010.

Yeah I figured it was something given to him when he was in the marines. Was hoping to track down some history on it cause No one seems to know anything about it in my family. I now am keeping it with me to help with his passing.

Seems like it was given to him from a loved one or he may have possibly bought it for himself to carry. Check with your mother for her input along with any brothers or sisters to see if it may have been given to him by any of them. It must have been special and given to him by someone close to him.

A "good luck" coin, a coin given to a loved one being deployed, a number of possibilities. BUT . . . perhaps a message from your Dad . . . you were close and obviously cared for each other deeply . . . . look at the meaning of the words and realize that it is a two way street between a father and a son. Your Mother asked you to clean out the desk . . . you found the coin with something that you made for him that he obviously loved and cherished because you made it. Most people will scoff at such things . . . but I think people overlook "sign" that somehow are left for us from those that we love that have passed to somehow let us know in some small way that they are still with us and watching over us.

When my mother-in-law suddenly became ill and had to be hospitalized, we were on our way back to Michigan from Arizona. We drove straight through and went directly to the hospital. We had our chance to talk with her before she was unable to talk - we spent three days around the clock with her until she passed away on May 3rd. (7 years ago). After she passed, we went home and got some rest and cleaned up. the net day was spent making arrangements and the following day, we had to go to her apartment at Assisted Living. It was hard for both my wife and I - she had been like a mother to me. Sh had a Lutheran Prayer Book that she had received as a child - she used it every day - a new prayer each day that she marked with the attached bookmark ribbon. When I got ready to box up her Bible and Prayer Book, for some reason I opened the book to the page that she had marked. It should have been on the page for the prayer for April 27, the day she went into the hospital in the late afternoon. It wasn't;t. It was marking the prayer for May 3rd - the day she passed. Both my wife and I were touched by this because it was as though she was letting us know "it was O.K - that May 3rd was the day she was intended to "go home".

Through the years, I have had similar things occur with both of my parents - I accept them for what they are - signs from my folks that, even though they are gone, they are still with me and watching over me until it is my turn to be "called Home" where we will all be reunited some day in a better place. Be what it may . . . and I am not a religious fanatic . . . . such things have strengthened my Faith and any doubt about a life after we leave this earth we live on has been erased. I worked ambulance and fire/fire rescue for many years and I saw both the worst of humanity and also was able to be with and give comfort to many who passed in my presence. I have often said that "the body is nothing more than a vessel for the soul, and while the physical form of a loved one ceases to exist as we know it, the soul lives on and will continue to watch over those they loved and in their own way, they will let us know that if we have the wisdom and ability to recognize it.

Yea . . . it's a nice coin and it's natural to be curious about it . . . but look beyond the coin and look at the words and the message. Your Dad obviously knew that you were with him during his surgery - whether in person or thought - you are stepping up and helping her as much as possible while she, too, struggles with the loss While your Dad was a hero to you . . . you were to him as well. There is a reason that you ran across tis coin with the wording it has and there is a reason it just happened to be with something you made that he treasured. While you may or may not believe in such things, at least keep an open mind. Not everything is a coincidence. Your Dad sounds like he was a remarkable man and I have a feeling the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. God's Blessings on you and your family.

Thank you Billy, that was quite eloquent and represented exactly what my thought was when I found it and why it has resided in my pocket since. Your post meant a lot to both me and my wife when I showed to her so thank you.

Because this is this group I thought my dad would appreciate me sharing this with you guys. The last time I saw my father in person he stopped by to drop off a little gift.

Backstory: When my grandfather passed away in 2007 my dad discovered a 1918 manufacture US Property 1911 that he had bought surplus and started gunsmithing in the 50s than abandoned the parts in a cigar box under his bed. My dad vowed to finish it and give it to me cause at the time I didn’t own a 1911 and I was only one in family who didn’t. Fast forward to this past August, my dad delivered the completed rebuild. Photo below shows the one he rebuilt from grandpa on the left and my custom that I built years ago on the right (wife bought for me to do while I waited for Dad to finish his).

I fully plan to continue on with his legacy of custom tuned 1911s.

Just a guess, but the coin doesn't look very old, and the dollar bill is 2013 series.
The bill might not be related, but I figure somebody gave them to him for whatever reason not too many years ago.
