Was out shooting some cast this evening at the brother-in-law's house, and I was telling his son that I'd pay him a nickel a case if he picks them up before they get corroded and deprimes them, and I'd give him a dollar a pound for the lead he dug out if them berm, when I pulled these examples out of the dirt.

First one is a MP 225gr .45 penta hollow point, with nice mushrooming. The other is a Lee 356-120-TC, also showing decent expansion. Both were coated with HiTek.

Not sure I could ask for much more from those two profiles.

What alloy blend were you shooting...if I may ask.

Thank you.

A soft mix of mostly SOWW, some COWW, and a bit of tin for fill out. Can't be more than 30:1. Using the pencil test the lead had a BHN of about 8-9. I water dropped the 9mm, not for hardness but for pacing. Baking the coating on probably lost any extra hardness from water dropping.

I'm not pushing them particularly fast, the 9mm is 3.5 gr and the .45 is about 4.5 gr, both of titegroup.

So, after zooming in on the picture just now and paying better attention, the .45 was actually my NOE 255gr copy of the Keith SWC. I just weighed it and it's still 249.7gr after going into the berm.

That one is the same alloy, air-cooled, over 6.5 gr of unique, shot from a Ruger Vaquero with a 7.5" barrel.

Nicely done Mr. Keith.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211011/7263e4a6de23e1f45d0787c29d491b12.jpg

Nice! I shot some of my hard cast hollow points into some gel:
The round was 40 S&W going about 900 fps into gel that *should* be ballistic gel. The base when through and the HP parts shattered and went everywhere in the first 6" or so.
