Just bought a Freedom Arms .454 Casull with a 7 1/2” barrel and ordered a Lee 452-300 mold. Any good loads with Alliant 2400 anyone care to share?

Years ago I played with that Lee bullet. My mold was way oversized.By the time I sized down .451 there wasn’t much left of the lube grooves.

BigBoreShooter makes an very important point. Bullet sizing on the heavy bullets will need to be no larger than .451 to chamber in the incredibly tight chambers of the Freedom Arms guns. I ran into the same issue myself with one of the very first production M83 revolvers. The RCBS 255gr bullets and the Lyman 454629AW 300gr bullet could be sized to .452 because they did not seat as deep in the chamber. The larger 340gr bullets which seat closer to the chamber mouth had to be sized to .451 and then needed a rub with 0000 steel wool to get the diameter reduced a tad farther on the driving band/nose above the crimp.

Can't help you with 2400 powder. I use H110, 296, or Accurate #9 with a HEAVY crimp and mag primer. I am sure there are plenty of loads now listed by the various powder manufacturers on their web sites.

Have fun!

I have used A2400 extensively in 454.Since the 454 has power to spare, I never loaded to full potential.During the recent Michigan bear season,my load was a 295gr a WFN@ 1340fps. I used A2400.That bullet can pushed to 1500fps with H110/296. At that velocity I would have to harden my alloy or heat treat to stand up to the increase in pressure.
