I just poured a pile of plain bases flat nose 150 gr. bullets, then powder coated them.(Accurate 150T)

What is a good reduced load using Hod. Universal. I found a pound of it and understand it is good for reduced cast rifle loads.

Thanks

I haven’t use Universal in 30-30 but if I will need to do it, I would just use Alliant Unique data for this application. This data is plentiful on this forum and will range from 7gr to 10gr and maybe even more. I found the two extremely close and for this application I would say that they are literally interchangeable. Both Unique and Universal are position sensitive and I have found Universal to be more so. Lifting you barrel up before pulling the trigger may help you some to remedy this.

10 grains of Unique should work nicely! Don’t know about Universal?

Universal loads much like Unique in light rifle loads, just measures better.

Hodgdon does not list load data for Universal in the 30-30, probably better suited to handgun cartridges. However, in my 30-30 Model 94 with a 20-inch barrel and with a 159-grain cast, I used 10.5 grains and it yielded 1500 fps with 1.5 to 2.0 inch 4 shot groups at 50 yards. Good light plinker load. These were traditional lubed and not powder coated bullets but it should not matter dramatically. Good luck.
