I used the Lee C309150F over 25 grains of 3031 in the 30-30 to take this little cull buck. It went through him at 50 yards and he dropped right there. Hey, thank you for the response. Was it a soft bullet? In your Krag will you be using the same 150 grain bullet? I'll be interested in your loads.

That bullet was straight clip on wheel weights. Based on what I’ve learned here, my currrent mix is softer - about 50/50 sinker lead and wheel weights. I’m using mild loads in the Krag that push either bullet around 2000 FPS. That 30-30 load used for the deer was mild at 1800fps( or so).

I'm more of a 170 grain in .30 guy;
but if you're not reaching out to extreme distances, and have it pumped up fairly fast with good accuracy-
there's no reason it won't work fine for ya.

Also, the listed weight on molds is determined with a specific alloy that is pretty hard.
If your alloy is softer, your boolits will come out heavier, probably closer to 160gr.

I found this out with the 405FP I use in a .45-70.
Loading for black powder speeds, I use a fairly soft ally. The boolits come out at 425 grains or so.

It will certainly work for deer. For a .30 bore, I personally prefer 180-220 gr. bullets.

Have this mold and got a good result from it in terminal ballistic test using soaked phone books. My alloy is only moderately hard (60% pure and 40% hard birdshot) which gives good expansion and weight retention. The terminal velocity at impact I estimated to be about 1300 fps so high mv muzzle velocity isn't really necessary if your shots are usually under 150 yards. That boolit from my mold drops at 156 gr not including gas check.

i use the 165gr(173gr actually) ranch dog in my krag. it kills deer now.

I've never used a 150gr lead bullet however, I use a NOE 165gr rf in my 30.30 and 30.06 with great results. Here are a few

The C309150F Lee was the first rifle bullet I ever cast, it was my favorite Rio Grande turkey bullet from my 94 Winchester 30-30 loaded to "CCI Stinger" velocity(around 1500 fps.
To the OP- is your rolling block an original Remington or a Lone Star? I'm jealous either way......

It is a 1902 ERA No. 5. Long story short: it was in 7mm it now has a new barrel and is in 30-40 Krag. As soon as the rear sight is re-attached I will post photos. It is an extremely fun rifle, very handy and I have only barely begun to work up loads. Unlike my Krags, the ammo I load for this has to be at spec, there's no room to play with, with the brand new chamber. The 150 grainers seem to really snpa out of the rifle propelled by 17 grains of 2400.
