Across the rainbow bridge. He lasted 15 and a half years. Not too bad for an outdoor cat. Part Siamese. Took a turn for the worse this weekend. Wife was able to get an appointment yesterday afternoon and took him to the vet, then she called me. I was headed home, but got stuck waiting for the construction area to open the road. Doc said he was suffering and in pain and as much as I would like to have been there with him to pet him and say goodby, I just couldn't let him suffer anymore for my sake.
.
Wife was petting him when he slipped away. He was gone before the vet even got halfway done.

Our other cat is acting strange today, I think she knows. She is also 15 and a half and may have hyperthyroidism. Will know Friday.

Miss him. Seems so quiet outside when I go out and he's not there, fussing to be petted.

I had to put down our older cat this year, and our younger one (not to mention we humans) still misses her. We'll be getting another one soon, I think, a single cat just isn't enough!

15 years is a good run for a kitty, sounds like you took good care of him.

Sorry for your loss. NEVER any fun,,, especially when you have gotten close to them. I know it all too well.

We lost one at the end of July. She was over 17.

But my wife truly wanted another kitten,, one that would be her's. We have 3 other cats,, they are 8, 10 & 12-1/2. Well, a week ago,, we picked up the newest fur baby. We now have another one,, & he's about 11 weeks old. Lots of smiles have replaced the frowns of loss.

It's funny how they can become such a part of our lives. Our newest,, has already made himself right at home.

So hard to say goodbye to a pet that is a family member, but hopefully it brings some comfort to you and your wife when you think of the loving home you provided forHarley - and he was lucky to have the two of you. It may have been his time, but I truly believe we will be reunited with our pets one day in a much better place. You and your wife need to heal from the loss and when the time is right, give another kitten the opportunity to be a part of your loving family - there are so many out their that need a loving and caring home.

Sorry to hear.....you can certainly get attached to them!

We lost our outside cat several years ago which was around 14 yo. She showed-up as a stray at an estimated two ( by the vet), and was the most unusual cat I’ve ever been around. She had no fear of dogs, in less than a week made friends with our Lab, and was soon jumping the fence and lying in the dog yard with our Lab. She outlived our Lab, and two Miniature Schnauzers (that were older than she). It left an emptiness here once she was gone! memtb

I'm sorry to hear this Rock.
Here is our Otis, I've seen him initiate an attack at full run and leap onto a 75 pound dog. He traveled 12 miles over 9 months to come to us. He has a chip so our vet tried to contact the owners who had moved away. He was 7 pounds then now he is 18 pounds and not fat.

When we got him home as a kitten, one of the first things he climbed on was my Harley, and stood on the tank with his paws on the handlebars, just meowing away. Kind of like "this ones mine, lets go". That's how he got his name.

J.W.--Except for the white, that's what my other one looks like. Yours looks like a grey "Tuxedo" kitty. Daughter has a Tuxedo kitty, smart cat.

Sorry for your loss, but sounds like Harley had a good run. Many do not. We lost a cat nearly two years ago. I know a lady that rescues kittens and has asked for help to socialize them, so I went for a visit to let her current brood cheer me up. She had a six month old that she really liked, and sent her home with me. Best thing to come out of loosing ours. Still miss our old cat, but the new one sure makes us smile a lot. Glad we can provide her a good home.

We do bond with our pets don't we?

Sorry for your loss. But getting back on the horse ASAP helps to blunt the sharp edges. It never gets rid of them, but it helps.

I'm sorry for your loss. We get attached to our pets and it hurts to loose them. I have a 17 year old indoor cat and I dread the day when it comes.

Over the decades, GONRA's outdoor male kats lasted around 11 years
before their plumbing screwed up.
Once "low ash" kat food came out, they lasted 15-17 years.

Really sorry. I still miss the dog I lost in the “90s. I’ve had others but she was exceptional. The best ones warm our hearts forever.
