View Full Version : H 110?

A cousin called me and asked if I wanted a pound of H 110. he picked up at an auction. Never messed with it before, but felt like it was more for the upper end like 32 H&R Magnums, 357 Magnums, and 44 Magnums. Anyhow it will probably cost me @ $3. I mostly reload 32S&W Long, 38Special, 38 S&W, and 44Special. Is it trading material, or can I get some use out of it?

You'll definitely **NOT **find use for it with those calibers.
Check out Hodgdon's reloading site for particulars!

Apologies - I misread your caliber choices. Hence my edit.

Look up the calibers you shoot in the manual.
It'll probably do well with heavier boolits, and for .44Mag, it has a cult following.

It's a fan favorite for 44 mag with heavy boolits.

Trade. Doesn't download well, too slow for your needs.

OR you might need a new gun.

It might be a sign!

Works well in .30 Carbine and .300 Blackout sonic loads.

I use it in 30 carbine, 22 Hornet and 410 skeet loads. Metering is almost perfect.

Never loaded Boomer handgun loads.

Hodgdon has zero loads for H110 in the OP’s calibers (and rightly so). As above, it is totally unsuitable for those cartridges, but it will get you some Unique!

Looks like trading material to me - none of the calibers listed are suitable for it.

Works well in .30 Carbine and .300 Blackout sonic loads. In those two and top end .41 magnum loads it is my favorite. If we were close I'd swap you some Unique for it for sure!

I hadn’t used it for years but I recently decided to try loading some once-fired AA Winchester hulls in 410 (for skeet). Then I had to go find a pound to buy! I think I ended up paying close to $50 for it, and if trading would use that as my baseline.

Best powder around for turning your .357 magnum into a real rifle cartridge. It likes to be compressed.

It is the only powder I use in 44M full house loads.............AND NO OTHER CALIBERS!

Trade it for something you CAN use in the cal's mentioned. I sure don't need anymore, as I have 5# of H110 now.

I paid $35 for a pound a week ago at a gun show.

It's a magnum pistol powder. Period. I use it in heavy .44 Magnum and .500 Linebaugh loads. Do not use it in small calibers.

If memory serves it's identical to ww296. It's good powder for the right loads.

It is very good for full snort loads in magnum handguns but it is not at all versatile. It doesn't download. Trade it.

My 357 Maximum likes it.

I have not even checked in any of my reloading manuals, for the simple reason that I assumed it would not be in there for any cartridges I reload for: 32S&W Long w/100 grain swc's, 38 Special w/158 grain swc's, or 44 Special w/240 swc's. Thank you for confirming my assumptions.

I use H110 for .410 shotshells, .300 Blackout, .357 Mag and .44 Automag

It was developed for the 30 carbine.

I use a lot of H110 in several cartridges none of which are the "32S&W Long, 38Special, 38 S&W, and 44Special". Truthfully I wouldn't even think of even tryin g it in those cartridges. There's too many better powders available for them. If we lived closer I would trade you for it but I'm sure someone in your vicinity would also.

I misread your post. I read what I wanted to see, sorry. It is really good for heavy 357.

If you got it for $3 a pound though that's a huge cost savings for loading 357 Magnum ammo[emoji848]

If that can is full that's enough powder to make over 400 full power semi wadcutter loads...

Do you have a 357 gun and brass and small magnum or small rifle primers and interest to handload it?

Better and better; an unopened can of H110, and a 3/4 (at least) can of Bullseye. He does not reload; so to him it was excess of the main stuff; so gave both to me.

H110 is the primary powder for loading 350 Legend and listed in burn rates with Lil Gun before it and IMR4227 after it from slower to faster.

Be very careful with H110/W296 in 350 legend. The secondary detonation in cases loaded under 90% fill is real.

All of these cases measured a couple hundredths wide at the base and would not chamber on the next load. Couple primers actually blew out!

I've had great results in 45 long colt "Ruger only" loads.
