View Full Version : More recoil differences between the G19, P365, XDS 40, and G29.

Spent some quality time at the range yesterday shooting some pistols I usually carry. The XDS is no longer carried, but the G29 is carried every other week in the woods, while the P365 gets carried every day.

I did some recoil tests that showed nothing earth-shattering. The G19 recoiled the least, while the G29 recoiled the most.

However, then I decided to see how that recoil affected performance at 7 yards by shooting each pistol as fast and as accurately as I could. The results are really, really surprising and is making me question my approach to carry guns.

Now for the odd 7 yard results...

And verifying that the Glock G29 was amazing...

That was a pretty good warm up by the time you got to the 10mm. The XDS has different ergonomics, so switching grip angles and going fast didn't work that well.

What you can do cold is what matters the most.

You are using a fairly paltry load so in that gun control is not much of a problem.

Not sure why you think those were "paltry" loads. Perhaps you were thinking of other powders. I used 6.0 grains of Unique and 6.0 grains of WSF behind 200 grain Hornady XTP bullets. Max for both of those combos is 6.2 grains and 6.1 grains, respectively.

Velocity man, velocity. Just because you are running near max load with a certain powder psi=wise doesn't mean max velocity the cartridge is capable of.

You “lost the red dot” on the first target and measured accuracy? That makes no sense.

I suppose you do not wait for a sight picture before firing the next shot. If you do, then that would affect your time on the first target shot. I think you would at least try to find the red dot after you lost it...and that takes time.

Do a fair test...use iron sights for each gun.
