View Full Version : Better option 44-40 than 43-220C?

Well I need a 44-40 boolit in the .431 range so the 427098 is out of the question. But I saw the Accurate 43-220C is the 427098 with a crimp groove and I can size to my needs. It will be powder coated, normal lubed, and black powder lubed. How do you think it will work?

I know some will say the 43-215C but I like the idea of 2 lube grooves vs one large one where rifling cannot make contact.

Opinions?

But in Tom's moulds, the 43-220M would be my choice if soft lubed/BP were involved

If you intend to shoot black powder the 43-215C has adequate lube capacity to prevent foul-out with Goex powder. The 43-200M as mentioned also good. Have no experience with powder coating so cannot address that.

I agree with you on the #43-220C for PC - Smokeless.
But for BP, I think Outpost75 is right about the John Kort design. I bought a 2cav #43-215C mold just for BP use. I have to size to .430 to fit in My 1873's chamber. I use a LubeSizer to size only and pan lube with home made lube.

Can someone tell me the main difference in the 43-215C and the 43-220M?

If you mean the 43-219M, it's the larger amount of grease the 'M' can carry down the barrel.
