Took an old friend to the range.

Had my local Ruger pusher put in an order for this one when I read they were going to be a limited run. Got it in January of 2000.

We have taken several deer, 2 coyotes, and one hog together. It has ridden on my hip when Mrs. Thumbcocker and I were in remote places far from pavement and cell signal and provided a lot of comfort. It has made hits on rocks in those remote places at distances that impressed the locals.

Skeeter was right. A good handgun can feed you, entertain you, and comfort you.

Polishing the internals, a 30 oz trigger return spring, and a staggering amount of dry firing have left it with an action that feels like oiled ball bearing.

The grips are American holly finished with multiple coats of true oil. I did the final finishing of the grips. It took me a long time because I would hold it sand the places that didn't feel quite right and so on. They completely fit my hand.

Nothing special just another Ruger. But this one is MINE.

Early on, I picked up a standard Super Blackhawk in a trade. It needed a bit or work, which I did, and ended up with one of the most satisfying single actions a feller could own. I have belonged to the same gun club since 1954. We had a BUNCH of serious competition pistol shots. That old Super Blackhawk was impressive, even by their standards. It would keep most shots on a playing card at one hundred yards off a rest using my home cast bullets (one of Elmer's finest) and a full charge .44 Magnum load of H110. That is true performance.

After all of these years, I still have that early (serial number is in the 5000's) Blackhawk and treasure it greatly.

Thimbcocker, your fine piece really ramped up my old memories!

Is that a simply rugged chesty puller rig? That's a fine piece of leather rigging for a fine revolver.Yes. I have a few Simply Rugged holsters. They just work for me. I use chest carry for hunting so the gun is under my coat in bad weather.

For hip carry I prefer cross draw. Much easier to get stuff out of my right pocket or ride a tractor or 4 wheeler.
