Posted this at the shotgun area then figured it might be better here: Those that are making 410 brass out of 444 or The 9.3 x 74R brass does a plastic shotgun wad work in these cases or do you have to use fiber and card wads? That goes for the 410 brass cases being sold now too I guess what can you use in them? I just got a 45/410 barrel and am interested in these cases besides using regular hulls.

I load .410 2 1/2" skeet shells....... WW AA's and use the appropriate AA plastic wad . Are the brass cases THICKER than plastic?? I'd be mildly surprised if they are. I'd imagine plastic wads would work. There IS a Company that sells old style cork/fiber wads,but don't recall ever seeing .410 wads. Then again....I wasn't looking either.

IF You need a handfull of plastic wads to experiment with.... I'd be happy to send a few.

Thanks for the offer but I will be buying plastic shotcup wads as I plan to reload for both plastic hulls and the brass ones.

Hi jh45gun;
As I recall, most/all the posts have been based on the interest in loading boolets/slugs in a long case to get the boolet past the extra long lead created by the 410 chamber in the rifled bbl. I know that was my interest and that of those posters with whom I've communicated.
That's NOT to say that we at some point in time will not be interested in shot in our firearms. I fully expect to be if I live that long.
I wish you luck in your pursuit.

I have a 410 brass case that a friend in SC sent me, it is made from a 7mm rem mag case, he just carefully turned the belt off. It measures 2.3" long. .472 back by the rim, .469 out at the end..... and the neck wall thickness looks like .01 to .011 per side. I have fired it a few times with cardboard wads but I have never tried it with plastic shotcups.

I have made 410 shells by blowing out 303 British brass after anealing it. I have only used fiber wads for my loads in it but they work fine in my 410 shotguns. I have also loaded 454 diameter lead boolits in these cases and have fired them in my 45/410 handy rifle barrel. Accuracy was better than when I used 45 colt brass with the same boolits.

Good to know about the accuracy I am guessing loading a 444 brass the same way would also help accuracy as there would not be as much of a jump for the bullet as a 45 Colt. Why I want to know about loading the plastic cup wads is I would suspect it would protect the rifled barrel more using the shot cups over just using fiber wads and open shot.

I've loaded 444 brass back when I was younger (ages ago), using both fiber wads and plastic cups. Both work, but its not possible to get a lot of shot into the 444 case. If you want to load shot get some of the all brass 410 cases from Midway, they have 410, 20, and 12 ga.
