Was able to purchase 1000 CCI 209M Magnum shotshell primers for $50. Couldn't pass up.

Question: How much more "oomph" do the 209M primers have over standard 209's?

Hodgdon recommends 209M for 30-34 grains of Longshot pushing 1-1/8 oz shot to >1400 fps. I don't need that kind of velocity.

If I use a 209M to ignite a low-power 7/8-oz Cowboy action load of Clays; or a standard 21-gr load of Unique pushing 1-1/8 oz shot, do Magnum shot primers cause problems?

I started buying 209M’s about thirty years ago . But not for shotgun use , I used them in Knight Inline ML’s . I no longer shoot the two Knights I have but I still keep 209M’sfor heavier loads . Think I have 1200-1300 .

Here is some info that might help:

http://www.armbrust.acf2.org/primersubs.htm

Primer substitutions can result in up to about 3000 PSI difference in pressure. Not a big concern if the recipe shows say 7000 or 8000 PSI but would be if the recipe pressure was running 10,500 PSI if the primer sub raised pressure by 3000 PSI.
