I recently received a flyer from Legacy sports the company that makes the Puma 92 clone.
To my surprise I see they are now offering a 45/70 mod of 1886. This is the first I have heard of this. If thier 1886 is anywhere near as good as the 92's and as reasonably priced I think they will sell well.
Does anyone within reach of this post have one of these? I would sure like to hear about it.
Maybe if they are well accepted they will eventually offer other calibers like 50/110, or something in 40 cal like 40/82, 40/70 or something. If they can do that and keep the cost at half that of a Browning/Winchester I think they wont be able to make them fast enough to keep up with demand. Wow what will I start with, maybe a 40/65.
Lets here what ya know!

Googled up the following post (dated 11/04/2008) over on Shooters forum...

Here is the latest and greatest from LSI. I finally talked with someone who wasn't blowing smoke up my butt. As I thought, Rossi is not going to be making parts or guns for them. Taurus has bought the line and is going to make and sell the puma under the Taurus name. LSI is going to have a Italian Co (Kiappa) making a model 92 for them. It will be a more refined rifle but also more expensive. They are also going to start making a 1886 model that will chamber 45-70, 30-30, accessories and such.

I finally got them to say that they are going to have to replace the rifle. So there is progress, VERY SLOW, but progress.

The flyer from Legacy has a pic of the 86 and its a fine lookin rifle.
Shows a case hardend receiver a 22" or 26" octi barrel and a cresent but. I would have preferd a shotgun but.
They show an MSRP of $1,399.00 They are not yet showing up at thier site on line.
May not have even made it to distributers yet. I contacted Davidsons today to inquire about them but they have not got back yet.
Another one they show is the 50th aniversery of The Rifleman, a 92 in 44/40 with that big loop lever with the firing screw in it. When I was about 7 Lucas McCain (Paw) was my hero. Man he could sure work that lever. MSRP $1,299.00 OUCH!
The flyer has a full page pic of Chuck with that 92 slung over his sholder and bringin back memories. Man I would just love to see if I can empty that gun as fast as he could.

The Miroku/Davidson 86's are going for $1700-$1800. If I had to mail order something, sight unseen, I'd prefer to go that route than paying $1400 for something new out of Italy.

I might pay $1400 for the Italian gun, but not without being able to handle it first. If they want me to take a chance on mail ordering one the price is going to have to down in the $800-$900 range.
