Question for those working with the 444 brass and others for 410

Those that are making 410 brass out of 444 or The 9.3 x 74R brass does a plastic shotgun wad work in these cases or do you have to use fiber and card wads? That goes for the 410 brass cases being sold now too I guess what can you use in them? I just got a 45/410 barrel and am interested in these cases besides using regular hulls.

Several years ago I piddled with 444 brass in a .410. While overall the interior dimensions of the 444 case made the shotcup fit loose, I discovered that where the case walls thickened at the bottom of the case, the interior diameter narrowed sufficiently for the wad to seat nicely near the bottom of the case. I fired a handfull loaded with a standard H110 load and a shotcup and though I didn't pattern them, they shot just fine. I'd try the shotcup. I really think it will work.

I use 444's and plastic wads work as do homemade card wads. I cut the wads iwth a 7/16" gasket punch. Regards, Woody

i use a cardboard wad under the shot cup (444 marlin cases) just a simple wad cut from a cereal box with a sharpened 44 mag case improved how mine shot

To one up it, sandwich a 1/8 thick felt that has been soaked in melted bullet lube between two card wads.

Its a little hard to get a good star crimp on the nickel cases. Do you use a 6 or 8 point?

I think that if you dripped some bee wax on the over shot card , you wouldnt need any crimp. I found that bee wax stays a little softer and sticks to shell better than candle wax.

Would that drilling out for 209 primers work safely for the 444 brass too? It would be nice to use 209 primers or is just large pistol primers the way to go?

I use large pistol primers, they work fine and they are cheaper. Regards, Woody

Did not know they are cheaper so I guess no big deal plus if I get to reloading 45 Colt I will need them anyway.

Those russian steel cases are berdan primed, thats why you drill them out to take a 209 primer

LOL I knew there was a reason I kept all those steel russian cases I've been shooting out of my .410 M6 Scout! I'll hafta try this. Do the 410 hulls usually take a 209 Primer?

Yea the factory ones do.
