Gunshow this weekend and i thought I'd bring some extra i have.

I have a case of Rem 223, 62gr fmj and 10 bricks of Thunderbolt 22lr.

I know what rediculous prices gunbroker has but im not a scalper. What would be a fair price other than "what someone is willing to pay"?

From $.75 to $1.00 a round for the 223. Over a buck a round is gouging for sure. I'd be bagging them in bags of 20 for $20... :--)
Thunderbolts are at least $.10 a round. I'd be asking probably $60 to 65 for a brick of 500 and not feel bad about it. Hey, if you have pushback, you can always drop the price.

around here Frontier sells for $15/20 and Win. $25/20 not much Rem to be had.

I wouldn't pay more than 5 cents per round for premium match grade 22lr.

Glad I stocked up during the last shortage. I bought lots of Thunderbolts for .6-.7 /round, shipped. Now Midway has them for .10/rd, although right now they are out of stock. Most .22 is going for .16/round!

Prices are all over the place but i wouldn't charge $100/brick like gunbroker.

$50/500 on the 22lr and $20/ box for the 223 i guess?

The Wally World closest to me has Winchester .22 lr for $9.60 for 50 rounds. You don't want to screw anyone but don't give it away.

I wouldn't pay more than 5 cents per round for premium match grade 22lr.Then you won't be buying any ever again. Wholesale didn't even get that low for anything decent between 2015 and now. Lowest I saw wholesale was $0.065 a round.

Name your price, and take reasonable offers. You invested in it, and they didn’t.

I believe that Traffer reloads .22 rimfire, as doesn't really need to buy any at any price. Please correct me if I'm wrong, Traffer. I think I remember reading your previous threads on the subject. Very interesting for those who have the time and interest to tinker. Maybe not so much for busy folks who burn through thousands of rounds. :)

The local Bimart had a shelf full of Winchester yesterday, for 60 cents per round. The guy behind the counter said that shelf would likely be empty in short order.

Local farm and ranch has 223 for 65 cents a round. I have some Federal Auto Match .22 I plan on putting a price of 9-10 cents a round on it at our show in 3 weeks.

jonp, I don't envy your situation. I will say it's nice of you to sell your excess ammunition. And, at the same time trying to be reasonable and fair in regarding it's price.

If you set the prices low, you'll be sold out in short order would be my guess. Some of it will wind up in the hands of shooters who enjoy hunting small game, etc. And some of it will wind up in the hands of gougers. And you can bet your keyboard someone in the show will buy as much as you will sell them, only to walk it back to their table and mark the price up.

It's your money mister, set the prices where you feel comfortable and live with it. Some will shake your hand and thank you for being fair, and others are bound to glare and scream foul. And that's just about how I see the ammunition situation these days. Good luck!

Signup sheet with price they are willing to pay and at end of day (or until you feel guilty) highest bidder gets them.

I have enough 22lr to sell a few bricks if I chose but I won't because I don't want to gouge but I don't want to sell it cheap enough to allow someone else to gouge after I give them a fair shooter price. I would seek out some youngsters that could use some ammo for hunting or plinking and sell a brick at a price you expect replacement ammo to be when this mess clears up.
For the 223 I would probably sell for 60 to 70 cents per round and not feel bad one way or another. Other than 22lr I don't use a lot of factory ammo so reloading will be a lot cheaper than whatever you get for the 223.

The only ammo or reloading supplies I have sold lately have been to known accomplices and for about what I paid for it. I know they are going to be the end user and happy to help them out if I can. Likewise a member of my range that has really reduced the amount of his shooting has been selling to range members for a very fair price. If I were selling to strangers, I would take whatever they would pay because they may just turn around and sell it for the price YOU should have gotten.

ammo or powder or primers is just like any other precious metal, the current gun show price is the market price, sure you might get it cheaper at a dealer IF he has it .
you sell it for what the market is paying, not what you bought it for or what you can reload it for. would you sell your gold that you bought at 400 bucks an once for the going rate of over 1800 or for the 400.

if you think the price is too high, you dont buy, pretty simple but if there is strong demand and no supply then you pay the going rate if you want it.

I have seen ammo available online locally all through the shortage, if you really wanted it you could get it but you would pay a pretty penny for it. if you dont like the way things are now, just wait till everything you need is only available on the black market.

Thinking on this. Walk around for a while and look at prices. Then set your prices.

I would put up a sign.

Price at 9:00 is $85/brick
Price at 9:30 is $80/brick
Price at 10:00 is $75/brick
Etc
Etc

Let the market establish a “fair” price. You will have it all sold by noon.

Wanted to add...gouging is not possible on a non essential product. I do not lose sleep over what grasshoppers think. I doubt 1/2% of ammunition is used to kill things that need killing.

I feel the same way I wouldn't pay more than $0.25 for a full power jacketed 308 Winchester or a heavy powder charged cast 357 mag, but then again I'm not painted into a corner...

I agree. I’m glad I reload for nearly everything I shoot (except rimfire and shotgun). A friend was recently telling me how he had to pay $40 per box for .300 Win Mag, and $30/box for .308 ammo. Ouch!!

I thought I was going overboard a couple years ago, when I was buying brick after brick of .22 lr. Having been through those years of shortage and high prices, I just couldn’t help myself. I’d pick up two or three bricks whenever I saw them under four cents per round, on a pretty regular basis. I could make a real pretty penny if I sold them, but I bought them to have and shoot, not resell.

I wish I’d done the same with primers but I held back out of concern for fire code and storage laws. Unless this drags on for a lot longer, I have plenty for my meager needs, and can shoot all the .357 magnum and .45 Colt I want, with no regard to high store prices. :)

Look at prices at other seller and compare to what you paid. The going rate will depend on where you are and what is available locally. Or just add 50-100% over what you paid. Last gun show here prices were all over the place, saw some Win 22LR for $25 for 50 next to bricks of Aquila for $65. Centerfire rifle was running in the $30-40 range for 20 for 30/06 and similar calibers. Didn't see any 223/5.56. Bought some 22LR from forums I am on for 10-12.5 cents delivered, more than I used to pay but still not bad for a round I use and am not interested in reloading. Pistol ammo at the show was in the $40 for 50 range on 9mm and closer to $50 for 50 for 45 ACP.

Went to the show and didn't sell. Ammo was crazy. $40 for 30-06, $50 for 500 Aquila 22lr. 223, 7.62x39 and the like was off the charts. Powder, the few I saw was $50 lb. Lee loading dies $10-$20 more than you can buy them online right now. $150/thousand for primers? No thanks

I reload my own. Less than a penny a round.Good for you. But it ain't the same as buying a premium 22 ammo. (it might well be better than that Remington bucket junk though).

And while I cast, and reload for a bunch of center fire, I'll not play chemist with a made up primer compound for a few cents. Like the rest of us here, I load way cheaper than I buy.....
Just sayin, to each his own

As I stated in my post above, I didn't envy your position one bit. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. I kind of expected you would be seeing what you saw today. It seems when it comes to ammunition these days, buying and selling it I equate to suddenly wanting to play stock broker with my retirement funds, huh uh.

As for my current stock, I'm in good shape for my needs. What are my needs? That's my business. Some here seem to think if you have 2K of anything, you should feel ashamed for not offering half of it for sale at what you gave for it, with free shipping to boot. None, of mine is for sale...period. What I have done, is give to those who need it locally.

jonp, maybe you can consider trying to seek out the kids who will be needing those .22's first at a price you're happy with. Hunting seasons are ramping up around the country and those kids need it for squirrels and such. 223's? Being FMJ"s, they'll be of little use to anyone other than pelt hunters or guys helping to eliminate wild hogs and other vermin, coyotes...etc. And, if you have any law enforcement friends, check on them as well.

Finally, if you wind up just sitting on it? It's yours to do with as you please. Who knows? You may be glad you did before it's all said and done.

Last shortage I tried to find a local 4H or Boy Scouts that would like a bucket to no avail. I'd have donated one. Only taker I found was a guy in SC.

Local dealer here had Frontier .223 at $12 . Didn't last long ! Saw lots of the 325 rd. Federal .22's for $30-$35 at last gun show here, on up to one guy asking $8 for 50 Remington Thunderduds ! 9mm lowest was $20/50 not a "brand" name.

Local gun shop has had plenty of Frontier on the shelf at $12.99 a box for months. I grab a couple of boxes every time I stop by just because it's the only caliber I shoot that I don't load for.

.22 still hasn't come back, but I've got plenty since the last shortage.

Local FFA has kids that are also in 4H. Local 4H has competitions and merit badges(?). I donated a few bricks through my connection. It was greatly appreciated. Most schools in our area don't allow nail clippers on campus let alone firearms or BB/pellet guns. Makes it pretty hard to help when the local authorities won't help point you in the right direction.
