It's hard to get any real perspective on size, but that's a young yearling buffalo, does that grizzly seem to be on the young (small) side also? I don't have a clue, but always think of grizzlies as big bears.

edit: just read a bit more and it could well be a mature female grizzly.

A neighbor and I used to raise bison. It looks like that bear has about 100# on the bison so it is not much of a contest. If the rest of the herd was around, that bear would have a problem so somehow the youngster must have gotten separated.

It certainly wasn't a fast and painless death for the bison.

The bear didn't seem to have any problems handling it though.
