I needed a percussion rifle for elk season this year and went to a local gunshop that I have not really visited for awhile. Years ago I used to be a regular, drinking coffee and chatting with other regulars about shooting, casting, reloading, and a little bit about the world.

I was not interested in the modern inline they had on the rack, so the clerk asked me to come back in a week as he knew of a traditional rifle for sale that I might like. Sure enough, a week later he brought in the .58 caliber rifle in the photo above. After purchasing it, I found out that it was made by one of the guys I used to know that died two years ago. I been away and did not know of his passing. The clerk told me that it was just collecting dust in his closet, so it is good that it will get good use with me.

I will bring some pictures to the shop if I get an elk this year.

Unfortunately, your pictures are not well focused. It appears to be a nice rifle. Would love to see some better pictures.

Do you know if it was made from a kit or from scratch?

I used my cell phone to take those pictures. I don't have anything better right now. :-|

That rifle is not from a kit. That barrel is really heavy, I think it was built as a target rifle.

Here's a photo to inspire you for "elking" with the big 58. 90gr FFg under the Lyman 577611 heavy skirted minie. Sighted in at 5" high @50 yds put it on zero @100. The rifle is an Enfield Musketoon.

That hyperlink is not working for me. :(

Glad to have the data on the rifle and load used though. Most hunters only post a picture of the animal and they never mention what they used.
