A couple years ago I picked up a 10 cavity H&G mold at a local gun show. The wood on the handles had been replaced with poorly drilled dowel rods held on (not very well) with hose clamps. Needless to say the wood doesn't stay on and needs to be replaced with something better. I thought about using the wood from a pair of Lyman 4 cavity "nutcracker" handles but those don't seem beefy enough.
Curios if anyone else has replaced the wood on their handles and what they used.

Greetings,
The last run of H&G moulds of 6, 8, and 10 cavity had a screw in the end of each handle.
The metal handle was drilled and tapped.
If the wood handle became loose, you merely tightened the screw slightly.
Sourcing new handles is a challenge. I ended up buying hard wood dowel and ferrules for air/hydraulic hose.

I sealed the wood with stock sealer. Once dried, made a nice smooth finish.
Cheers,

I made these on a table saw from an Oak that fell in the road. The edges were lightly sanded for comfort but I like the hex grip.

I’d just turn a set on the lathe, piece of copper pipe for the ferrule.
Through bolt is a great idea!
