I've been extruding spg into ribbons and cutting that with the case mouth. What a mess. I know I can go liquid. How hot should the liquid be?I don't want to melt the beehive foundation wax disc. Any other less messy methods or materials?

I use a grease plate - it's the thickness of the cookie you need, with a hole the size of the cartridge neck. Back one side with a flat surface, and squish the lube into the hole with your finger, then scrape level. Push it out with a closely fitting dowel right into the case.
I think the Sharps Rifle Co. sold them in the 19th century.

Today I tried heating the SPG in a double boiler and using a large syringe to squirt it into the case. Didn't work too well. Then I went back to extruding a ribbon but this time I put the ribbons in the refrigerator. I'll find out this weekend if cutting the cookies is still messy.

I never any difficulty or what I would consider a "mess" using the SPG extruder. Are you doing it in a non air conditioned area? I could see having a mess in SC...or Missouri in the summer, if it isn't air conditioned.

Cut grease cookies today after leaving the extruded ribbon in the frig overnight. Much better.

Yeah my grease cookies work much better when refrigerated......also if I sneak in and use my wife's marble dough board:awesome:....unless she catches me then it's :dung_hits_fan:

You can make yourself a thin mold, with the height being the thickness you want, pour melted grease cookies mix into it. If your mix is too soft to work with, consider adding more wax and reducing ingredients with lower viscosity at room temperature.
I used a 44 case with the primer removed and a large headed nail through the primer hole. I stuck a wine cork on the end of the nail. I could cut the cookies and quickly push them out. The 44 case being a little smaller, made it a lot easier to insert them in the 45/70 case.
Now I have found that if the powder is compressed. Everything stays inside and I can simply turn the charged case over and cut the cookie with it and then seat it with a dowel.

I'd be curious ("Curious George: ;)) what method/tooling/grease you are using to make your ribbons? I experienced exactly the opposite of your challenge, as I squeeze out a ribbon just a bit shorter than the width of a piece of Cut-Rite Wax Paper (on which i drop it), after which I simply use a case mouth as my "cutter". I had taken one case, drilling out the primer pocket to ~3/16". I then took a common nail with its point ground off (so I don't puncture my thumb :)), and insert it into the case. Place on the ribbon to cut the disk, followed by a push with the nail to remove it from the case. I drop the 1/8" thick disk onto a precut cardboard was of same diameter, with a 2nd cardboard on top. This "sandwich" has worked well for me.
The tool I use is purveyed by Buffalo Arms...288829

For uniform thickness cookies i melt the wax in water. The wax floats and makes a uniform thickness. When cooled and dried i press the case into the wax.

I find that when I use the case mouth to cut the cookie, sometimes it doesn't want to come up off the surface and into the case.
Will a colder lube help with that?

rainmaker62 -- This is why I use Cut-Rite wax paper. (El cheapo (Dollar Store) brands do not work in this application -- why I named the brand I use) Of course you do not wish to process in the sun at high noon on, say, the 4th of July :) -- Generally my ambient temps are in the low 70*Fs, and I have not had such a problem as sticking.
My only "sticking" problem has been cookie staying in the case I use to cut it -- which is why (described in my post, above) I drilled a primer pocket out and use an inverted common nail as a pusher...

BEST!

What is the function of the grease cookie?

To make loading BP VERY messy!!!

PP = More powder NO mess!!!

I posted this several times over the years here.
Charge you cases with powder place a wad and compress the powder to the level you need.
Cut a lube wad with the case mouth and insert a wad you use under the bullet and push this two wads down on the first wad you compressed the powder with.
You will never have to handle the lube wad.
I put a bowel of water on a hot plate and I cut for this bowel 150 grams of lube and let it come up to a simmer/ not a boil/ till the lube is all melted.
Let it cool and take this hard lube wad off the water and dry the underside.
This bowel will give me a lube wad a very consistent 1/8" thick wad.

I would guess there is sufficient lube in the grooves of BP designed boolit to get it out the barrel. Does the vaporized lube cookie act as a buffer to reduce the heat at the base of the boolit?

If you shooting grease groove boolits a lube cookie is a durn poor substitute for a boolit with decent lube grooves . If you a confetti maker :kidding:(paper patcher) I never done that so have no idee if lube cookies part of that game or not.

Lead Pot has this down pat - cast yr wax on a bowl of water - dry it off - put it on a sheet of greaseproof paper - compress powder and (dry) over powder wad to correct height - cut the cookie direct into the case mouth - works better (less messy/ cleaner cutting) if you keep that wax plate ina fridge - lube brew needs to be not so hard or else it shoots out just like a solid wad = dont do very much - ditto for boolits with big deep grooves - grooves need wide to rub lube on ta bore, ony need deep enough to keep it there in ta loading process.
Merry christmas everbody!!!!!!!!!!

It is paper patch that needs the grease cookie , lube grooves hold lube and no cookie needed needed unless you wish more lube , if you use black powder the lube is to keep fouling soft .

If you wipe between shots fired using a PP bullet you don't need a lube wad. But if using a blow tube you need a lube wad. Keep it soft so it gets consumed mostly in the bore where it does more good than looking unused laying on the ground.
If you like to shoot dirty ( no fouling control) use a 3/16" soft wad.

For me with PP bullet it is shoot, insert Bore Gopher, push through with dry patch, load, shoot. Maybe 1 to 3 seconds slower than blow tube.
For hunting I use GG bullets and a Blow Tube.

I use grease groove in all mine , no lube cookie as there is enough lube on the grooves , no paper patch molds and no reason so far to buy one , all my lever actions also use a grease groove no cookie .

Not loading for the bench or shooting for nothing but my own enjoyment , so the grease grooves fit the bill at the present .

Plan on hunting this coming year with the 50-95 lever , no blow tube as I do not plan on shooting that many times .
