Fellow I know was at the range yesterday and had a contender barrel in an unusual caliber. It was a 9.3 JDJ. Said it was one of the last barrels JDJ did before he retired. IIRC it is a 9.3/444marlin. Looked to be a handful when he touched one off

On the other side of the power coin, I've got a 14 inch Contender in 30 Badger. With 1.6 grains of powder under a 115-130 grain bullet I can get 4300 rounds from a pound of powder. If I was a little younger I could touch it off and run downrange and move the bullseye in front of the boolit. Its a real hoot.

J.D Jones was quite the innovator where Contenders are concerned, while I have never owned one of his SSK barrels I have fired several and I'm sure that at some point I will come up with one. I think J.D.s favorite cases to wildcat were the .444 Marlin and the .225 Winchester although he used several others as well. That 9.3 does indeed sound like a handful !
