I have a Midway USA slide dial micrometer that took a dive off my desk. The impact with the floor sent the indicator pointing to 3 O'clock. The rotating bezel ring allows me to reset the Zero to the arrow's new orientation so it is still usable. Is there a way to get the arrow pointing north again? My neck is getting sore from bending over. Thanks

Yes, at least if it is constructed the same as a regular dial caliper. A thin piece of shim stock is inserted between the gear on the dial and the gear rack. This "skips" the gear into place. It may take a try or two to get the zero at twelve o'clock.

I have done this with Mitutoya calipers and Browne and Sharp, and it worked both times. In fact, those calipers came with the piece of shim stock already cut.

IIRC, the stock is .005 to .008 thick and just wide enough to fit the teeth on the rack.
