Hello All,

I recently acquired a C338-220-1R Double Cavity Mold and am excited to begin casting with it as I have never casted for the. 338 Win Mag before. However, I am unsure of the correct way to proceed in regards to sizing the boolits. I use a Lee sizing die for my 30-06 boolits, but the only die I saw avaliable from them was for .339 diameter. Would this be a viable option for sizing, or am I way off? The other thing I noticed is that there are luber sizer dies for .338, but I am not sure if I want to invest in a luber sizer at the moment, although I would buy one if it was my only option for sizing to the proper diameter. Any advice/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I use that same bullet in my SAKO .338 MAG Mannlicher and Ruger 1-S. I have a couple of lubrisizers available, but for my .338 mags I prefer to powder coat the bullets. The Lee push through sizer works fine for sizing after powder coating and based on the diameter of your bore NOE has a push through sizer with many differently sized inserts to size accordingly.

I also shoot that bullet out of one of my 338/280 wildcats, but lube it normally.

For minimal cash outlay, powder coating may be the way to go.

My Model 70 get fed .340 diameter conventionally lubed, sized and GC bullets.

I have a .341 die for my lubrasizer. It leaves the 34-250B unsized.

I use that Lee 338 sizer die for my Lee gas checked 220's as well as NOE gas checked 235's. Both projectiles have shot well for me in my old 338 WM out to 400 yards and MV's about 1700 fps. At velocities below 1600, the Lee 220's are not stable in my rifle but the NOE 235's are stable down to 1400. My lube is just the Lee Alox "mule snot". BTW- Welcome to our happy group!!!

I have the Lee .338 mold and used the bullet in .338-06. My mold, after a "Lee-menting" drops WW bullets at .3415". My barrel slugged .340" groove dia so I finger lubed and shot the Lee bullet as-cast. I ran them into the Lee sizer die bavkward just far enough to keep the gas check in place.
If I had shot it a lot I would have invested in a better setup. Just now I'm wondering why it never occurred to me to lap the size die.

In my previous post I failed to mention that my 34-250B are cast of #2 alloy and going 1636 fps using 28 grs. of IMR4198 and making a 2 1/2 in. group at 100 yards. My barrel is a Douglas 1-10”, 25” long. I’m still developing this load.

I guess I should have mentioned my powders as well. My favorite was 5744 but when that became as scarce as unicorns for a while, I found that RE-7 shot nearly as well.
