I am shooting a modern single shot with a 350 gr gas check boolet cast of 20:1 alloy and want to get the most velocity that I can get with an accurate load for hunting. Since powder is scarce I tried Vihtavoiri N133 with good results starting at 30 grains up to 39 grains. Since I don't have a chronograph I have no idea what velocity I got but no leading occurred so that is good! Any ideas how much more I can go or some other loads with another powder that might get me to 1800 fps. Thanks. Tom

Can you get AA 5744?

I would consider Reloader 7 if you can find some.

Use at your own risk, but no undue pressure signs in my Miroku M1895 .405.
416 RCBS 350gr sized to .413, weight lubed with gas check varies between 360-363 grains depending on the alloy. Hornady cases:
RL-7 48.0 gr - 2140 fps
RL-7 49.0 gr - 2232 fps/2279 fps (4190 ft lb) Loads shot several years apart. Weather conditions not recorded.
RL-7 50.0 gr - 2285 fps
Varget 51.0 gr - 1947 fps (poor accuracy)
Varget 56.0 gr - 2118 fps
Varget 57.0 gr - 2122 fps
Benchmark 53.0 gr - 2160 fps
Except for the 51gr Varget load, all shot less than 2" at 50 yds with iron sights. Cast bullet accuracy seems acceptable for hunting given my sight limitations (human and rifle), but I've found the 300 gr Hornady, either FN or SP, to be more accurate (2" or so at 100 yds).
