Anyone here use blue dot?

I may have to pick up some so I can load 5.7-28. I don't own any of the powders I can find data for..but I know where I can get blue dot..but might be a 8# keg.

Trying to figure what else I can use blue dot for.

Ideas?

Thanks

Its a long time favorite of mine. I use it enough I have a dedicated hopper!!

Heavy 12ga also slug loads. Heavy 357 mag & 10mm. My heavy 327 work well too. Its a powder I buy by the 4/8# jugs.

I've got some very accurate loads with Blue Dot, both cast and jacketed. 30-40 Krag mostly. I still use a powder that burns about the same rate, 10B101, a surplus powder from pulled down 50cal plastic training ammo. BD is pretty interchangeable with 2400 cast loads as long as you start low and work up. I wish I had an 8lb keg of BD sitting around, but the 7lb of 10B101 will have to do for now! https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?338339-What-do-you-load-with-Blue-Dot

ThanksBlue dot is excellent for max power full metal jacket round nose 115 grain in 9x19.

Fireballs and concussion like robocops gun, like shooting a magazine fed 357 magnum.

Who else likes blue dot in 9x19?

Used it for a lot of loads. .357 Magnum and .357 Max. Should work in 9mm, but there I use Powder Pistol. Cast bullet loads in .32-40, .30-40 Krag, 7.5x55 Swiss worked well. It also does well in smaller cases like .32-20. My best HV .25 Stevens load so far is Blue Dot. (a tiny case.) Good in .25-20 SS and .25-20 WCF, not to mention the .25-21. Slightly faster than 2400. Will be one of the first I try in the .32 Ideal if I ever get that project done. One of the only powders I've ever bothered to buy an 8-pounder of.

It works fantastic in the 223 with jacketed bullets if you a a careful reloader. The notes I made of my first prairie dog trip said take more Blue Dot loads.

GONRA sez - don't get confused:

CAREFULLY use "True Blue" for 5.7x28FN.

("Blue DOT" is great for .44 mag, .44 AutoMag. .45 Win Mag etc.)

true blue and blue dot have load data for 5.7 and yes.. carefully is the way to go in all things reloading.

I use to use BD in 357 mag, 44 mag, and 41 Mag, but after I had some over pressure experiences and then read the factory warnings, I quit using it in Mag level revolvers and put my stash of that powder into long term storage for future use in low power Rifle loads.

BD can get spikey (over pressure) when loads near MAX (that were worked up at warmer temperatures), are then shot in cold temperatures (below freezing)... you likely will NOT have that issue in Florida, but it's something to keep in mind.

I tend to shoot middle of the range loads..sounds like bd will be ok like that.
