Hi guys, just wondering if any on here has bought , used, or currently have the
Mp mold 45-270 saa mold ? And if so what have you found to be your favorite load for this mold ? With as many as 4 different nose profiles and different weight per nose profile . I like to use the flat nose, and hexagon hollow point for my close encounters whitetail deer hunting here in Michigan. All the books and manuals I have do not cover the weight of these particular weights this mold drops out. Any of your help. Load data favorites will be helpful and appreciated.

Do don't say what your shooing them out of. Makes a big difference. I'm loading for a BH and use Ruger only loads.

My go to powder is 2400, others prefer Unique, in the SA clones.

I'm using the same MP mold. No need to get concerned with the varying bullet weights. Just develop a load for the heavier solid, then tweak it. The lighter HP will be safe, with any safe load developed for the heavier solid.

The most recent (4th) edition of Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook has loads listed for the RCBS 270 SAA bullet. MP's is just a clone of that.

BTW, any data for a jacketed bullet of similar weight and design is interchangeable for cast bullets.

I have used commercially cast RCBS 270 SAAs with 10.0 gr of Silhouette for about 925 fps, extremely accurate.

I have the RCBS version and love it in my Blackhawk. Handloader Mag had a article specific to that bullet, covering the 3 different tiger's of loads. I think it was # 246, I will have to check? PM me your address and I can mail you a copy of the article.

'tier's of loads. My last whitetail load was 17.5 grains of 2400, which was plenty under 50 or so yards, and easy to shoot accurately.
What 'winelover' said pertaining to different versions.

This bullet has a nice crimp groove. Most cylinders SAA length fit it fine. Very good bet its seated to the designated length. (In that crimp groove)

I posted, a long time back, a load recommended to me by John Linebaugh using that bullet in my New Vaquero and the LDP jumped on me with both feet.
I believe they thought I were grapes and they were making wine.

Times change. I have been scolded on other boards years ago.

I dont like to give exact recipes myself. Prople make mistakes all the time. Self included and NOT giving information that could possibly harm someone is seldom a poor choice.

I noticed in this thread 4 load recommendations out of 13 posts.

OK, I better clarify. For a Tier II load using Alliant 2400 and the RCBS .45-270 SAA bullet, the Max load is 18 grains. My 17.5 load was accurate, burned cleanly, and shot comfortably in my large frame Blackhawk. For the range I expected, I didn't see the need to go higher. I like the HS-6 loads too. hc18flyer

I have rarely ever quoted a specific load. I usually quote the source that I got My loads from.
Most of My heavy loads are safe in the guns that I HAVE SHOT THEM IN.
Check your manuals or the various online load tables published by the various powder companies.
