Savage straight pull bolt rifle.

Saw a write up in the American Rifleman. Msrp around $1400. Would make a dandy platform for a scout rifle. Price point is well under other straight pulls.

The 300 mag chambered one comes in at 8 pounds. That accu fit stock is heavy. Hope they come out with a short action wood stocked unit set up for a scout scope. Apparently the action can be operated without disturbing your cheek weld.

WOW……..the “New” savage has straight pull bolt technology…….I have a 95 Steyr straight pull that was built 120 years ago!

No one said it was new technology. It is a new rifle with an old technology. Like just about every other gun made today :)

As a Lefty shooter, I like the ability to switch the bolt handle over. If they made one in 7.62x39 it would be on my short list.

I've had a T-bolt, a 95 Steyr, and a K31 Swiss. I guess that I didn't take to straight pulls because they are gone.
A friend has a Blaser and it's neat but ugly to my eye.
It's the European idea of a lever action!

I just realized I committed on an older thread while following links to the video. So I’ve copied it here.
I watched the video and it was impressive. However, I’m not crazy about more moving parts with probably high tolerances. If the rifle wasn’t perfectly maintained, what would happen if those bearings started to stick?

Interesting concept but agree with richhodg66...who is the audience???

If I felt the need for faster repeat shots, I would use a semi-auto or lever action to hunt with. The BAR costs about the same, has been around a long time, and is a known animal. Recoil should be less too for getting a second shot off. And the BLR is $400 less, over a pound lighter and will be faster than a pull bolt.

Just not seeing it.

The gun rags will talk it up and give it a boost....as they always do.

Does this thing come with wheels? If I wanted a ten-pound fast-shooter, I'd get a Garand.

Blaser is the only other one I can think of being made today and they have a strong (and funded) following it seems. Guess Savage saw a market there as they are much less than a Blaser.

Something light and handy, maybe a .308, would appeal to me more as others above said. Current version is too heavy. I don't think the price is bad given what you're getting IF it is in a format I like.

... also, CNC mills use a ball-locking drawbar not unlike this method and the usual progression to the dumpster is they begin to stick and ultimately dimple the mating surfaces to ruin.

Good point about the weight, ten pounds seems pretty ridiculous and if a guy wanted fast repeat shots, that Remington 760, 7600, whatever, has been a proven design for decades.

I have three Savage bolt rifles & all are very accurate. I like Savage bolt rifles. But, just wonder if this straight pull will have the caming power of a traditional bolt to free a tight cartridge case after firing. Some can be a little snug at times. Plus for the additional cost I will most likely not buy.

I just saw it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
This beholder says that rifle beugly.
Give me the Remington 721 .300 H&H featured later in the issue!
