Fairly simple scope mount attaches into the rear sight base with no modifications to the rifle.

This m/1888 being of the early variety that feeds via en bloc clip presents somewhat of a difficulty in loading en bloc clips with the scope sitting so far back fouling the loading port, as it were. The scope is NcStar 2-7x32 handgun with eye relief of 8.7 inches at 7x. Good sight picture but inconvenient for inserting en bloc clips. Solution? A timely solution would be to remove the QD scope rings each time, which would work ok while shooting at the bench but not so ok for field use.

This particular rifle is from the batch out of Ecuador and sold by Southern Ohio Guns some years back for $100. Some where plain junk but this was has a Czech replacement barrel that has decent rifling so it was worth steaming and oiling the stock and de-rusting the metal for a inexpensive representative example of the type. Ludwig Loewe 1891.

They manufacture a single shot loading "sled" that fits down into the magazine housing that provides a place to load single cartridges that will be picked up by the bolt as if it was loaded in an en bloc clips. Pretty cool. I have one on the way now. Should be here this weekend. Shooting report within the next couple weeks.

A secondary benefit of this L.E.R. scope mount is the rear sight base of the Mauser Model 1871/84 appears to be identical or near identical to the Gewehr 1888. So following the shooting of the m/1888 I'll be transferring the entire scope and mount to the m/1871/84 for ammo testing.

Shows the anchor that holds down one end of the steel adaptor. The anchor is identical to that used by the m/1891, m/1893 and m/1895 Mauser scope mounts I made years ago. The two screws that attach through the ladder pin hole are M2.5mm.

That's a nice bit of machine work there; How does it shoot?

I'll report in the next couple weeks. Hasn't been to the range yet.

The "single loading block" arrived today. Its 3D printed and looks perfectly fine for it's intent.

Finally was able to take this rifle to the range.

I tried several test loads. A couple of them showed potential. This one uses the RCBS 170 gr flattip .323" with 19 grs 5744. These are purchased cast bullets from http://gardnerscache.com/8mm_170_lfp_g_c.html. This was about the best of the day.

This one below Lyman 323470 .322" 13.2 grs Reddot. I tried several cast bullets that were put through a push-through die to reduce diameter from .324" to .322". In the end it was a waste of time as the old boy shot .323" just fine. Remember this rifle came from Ecuador and has a Czech replacement barrel that slugs .318" at the muzzle. I'm sure .323" and .324" would shoot fine.

This target below also shows potential. Lyman 323471 215grs .322" 13.2 grs Reddot.

The single shot sled fits down into the mag well and snaps into place. It functions fine. You can't really see it..

Not a lot of clearance between the bolt knob and scope. I smacked my fingers a couple times before I got it right.

Not bad for a $100 rifle. Bore is about a low VG. Not shiny but clean and smooth.
