Local store has some police trade ins that are bit worn, but mechanically sound. I realize Taurus can be hit or miss, but these seem pretty good. I don't see problems with the barrel that i have read about, no marks to indicate lead shaving. Lock up is good, bore is good, finish is matte, and rough, but ok. Seems to be the Taurus equivalent of the Model 10. For 225 I think it might be ok for a beater.

I shoot mine at 25 yards and get fist sized groups, that shot to the fixed sights, with 150-172 grain powdercoated lead bullets.

Nice. I haven't really heard anything bad except for a few crooked barrels. This seems to be ok. For the price I think I'll pick it up.

In the old days, I used to buy a lot of Police turn in weapons.
I found that they had plenty of wear from being carried, but real low mileage from almost never being fired.

Does it have striations in the cylinder grooves? If so, that would mark it as being older, perhaps 60s or 70s mfg. If they are smooth like a S&W then it is more recent. Taurus revolvers were so-so until the Bangor Punta company purchased Taurus. They also owned S&W and sent some techs to Brazil to help Taurus improve their product. The end result was that in that time period Taurus became a much better revolver, almost as good as S&W. $225 would be a good price for one.

Just an FYI, the surplus 82's that were not imported by Taurus have no warranty through Taurus whatsoever. Which may not be a dealbreaker but you should be aware of it.

Thank you for the information. Not a deal breaker. at the price I think it's a win. Came home with it a few days ago. now need to shoot it.

Are you hand loading for it? I've had good consistent results with red dot, trail boss, and 4227.

I've had two Taurus revolvers in the past and based on their performance I would jump on that 82 for that price for sure.

Probably an armed guard or security company trade in. I am not aware of any agency using Taurus.

A few years ago there were alot of South American military surplus 82's coming in. They usually had a lanyard ring and a ground off military insignia.
