Remington bullets 25-20 86gr SP
Attended the Ohio Gun Collectors on Saturday and saw these for sale by ET Brass
Talked with the owner and he told me that someone from a southern state recently ordered 7000 of these. He has been able to stock these on a somewhat regular basis.
This company has been my source of these for several years once Remington started offering them again.
I also use cast bullets in my Winchester 1982.

7000 ordered pre or post closure? I would love to know they are making them again!

I've shoot sub-minute of angle groups with 86 grain Remington bullets at a hundred yards, low charges of Unique.
I do hope they are or will go back into production.

Lil’ Gun works very well in my 1980s Marlin 1894cl with just about everything. Very easy to get nice velocities with 60-75-86gr jacketed bullets in these stronger actions and great results with lead too.

Found this from 1993.
My gun liked Unique and that's what I ended up feeding it.
Not that this data would work in anybody else's piece but it might give some ideas about the potential of those thin skinned Remingtons.
I had these seated out so pressures would pro'bly be greater in a lever gun.

I used the same or similar Remington bullet in my .25-20 Stevens 44-1/2 for a while in the late '90s. Accurate, and it killed a few chucks for me, but I came to realize that they didn't break up or even mushroom reliably. Was seeing evidence of ricochets, which in my area of Michigan flatlands could have had consequences. I think the bullet was designed for .25-06 velocities. I quit using the .25-20 for chucks in favor of a .223 using frangible varmint bullets.

I still shoot my .25-20s, but only at paper, with a good backstop.

YMMV.

thanks for posting this, the Remington 86 grainers are usually impossible to find, very tempting
but-- the old Lyman 257420 still works perfect

+++ to the 257420. Just as accurate and as long as I've got lead it's never out of stock.

Another avenue is using light weight 25-06 jacketed hollow point varminter bullets. At 25-20 velocities they're like shooting 22LR solids. They were never as accurate though as the 86 grainers.
