So I thought it was for a S&W Mod 52 in 38spl.
But it just doesn't look right.
I loaded one of my wadcutters in it, and it fits, but I just don't think it's right.
A 9mm seems to fit much better.

Your wadcutter looks a little long from what I load for my Model 52.
I probably do it all wrong, but I load mine flush with the case mouth.

If it really is a Model 52 magazine, keep it in a bank safety deposit box.
They're worth big bucks.

I found that out while trying to buy one, and not pay over $100. since it's a 'want to have', and not a 'need to have'.

I have heard that ammo for the 52 has to be loaded with the boolit very close to flush with the mouth of the case.
That may be for a 52 but that's just a guess.

Is there another model that uses a mag that look the same????

Your unknown case appears straight sided and well shorter than the .38 Spl. case in the magazine. Perhaps it is an action proving dummy for the Super 38.

Could it be a mag for one if the 1911 wadcutter guns a pic if the follower might help

It sure looks like a 52 mag

The 9mm single stack looks real similar, but they won't quite interchange.

If you don't have a Model 52 and put it on S&S, I don't haunt the place like some do, but I'd like to know.

A model 52 takes a wadcutter seated flush. Try one of those if you have it. Lyman 35863 double end wc with no button nose was the mold for them.

Is the length of the shell the same as a standard 38spl????
I do have fired cases someplace.
I have asked around if anyone has a model 52.
Most laughed at me.
Would sure like to try and fire one.
Is there any other semiauto in 38spl????

Case length for the S&W Model 52 was the same as a standard case; but the WC was supposed to be loaded flush. At least that is what I have always heard, never could afford one when they were being made.

I'm not familiar with any other factory made .38 Special semi auto's, although I think Colt did try to come up with one.

There were some custom guns made by bullseye gunsmiths in decades past.

It is a M52 S&W magazine, you should be able to load 5 empty 38 spec cases into it no problem. My 52's will feed empty cases. Makes loading a ball and dummy drill easy, sneaky too.

There is a WTB for one in S&S right now.

S&W 52's have to have the bullet seated flush with the case mouth to feed properly in the magazine and through the feed ramp. When I had one I used hollow base wadcutters from zero and hornady with great results. 148grs @ 750 fps and it should run like a sewing machine and yes from your pics that is a 52 magazine.

That's the guy who is asking about them.
I have two.
One is not in the best of condition.
I've been told here that they were for the Model 52, but I have no idea.
I just tried 5 empty shells.
It's all that will fit in it.
Not the easiest mags to load.
I did oil them before going back in the bag.

I had thought of that also.
Pictures of the S&W 952 look different.
They don't have the cut-out and button to help with loading.
Sure wish I could try and shoot one.
