I have a pound of it sitting around and thought I might burn it up in practice loads. Western powders says the burn rate is somewhere between Unique and Bullseye. I'm currently shooting a Accurate 265 gr. slug over 9.5 gr. of Unique for 1106 fps from a 5 1/2" Redhawk and would like to work up a load for a velocity of 1000-1100 fps. Any recommendations for Silhouette?

great stuff, I never understood why it is not more popular, great for 9mm, 40 S&W as well as 357,m 44 mag, well for many handgun calibers, lots of load data on western powder web site downloadable load guide, and it is one powder that can be used in 45 colt for low pressure or high pressure cast loads. so it can be used when down loading.

I saw some loads for 45 Colt but nothing for .44 mag. Any ideas for a starting load for a 265 gr. cast boolit?

I was mistaken about published data for 357 and 44 mag there is data for 38 spl , 38 spl +P and 44 spl.
I'm no expert and don't know what would happen if wanting to put those loads in 44 mag brass or 357 mag brass.
I've had great luck with getting info from the experts at western powders via email. maybe shoot them off an email and ask about it

silhouette really shines in max velocity cast loads in 9mm, 38 spl and 40 S&W. western has real world tested data using cast loads with this powder.
my first experience with silhouette was in developing self protection max velocity loads in 9mm and really liked the way it meters in progressive press and then it shoots real well too.

I bought a 4 pounder a while ago and have been using it plenty in both 44 mag and 45 Colt. I find it a little slower than Unique, more like Herco. Here are some of my better loads in 44 mag, all using CCI-300 primers.

240 coated SWC with 11.0 gr. for 1050'
200 Speer GDHP with 13.0 gr for 1275'
265 SWC GC with 12.0 gr. for 1125' (whitetail load)

Thanks very much. I think I'll start at about 10.0 and work up.
