I recently got a 357 combat magnum, I think they made them for 2 years prior to the model 19. It is the first one I have seen in my 66 years and I am excited..............Curdog

All magnums from this era have recessed chambers. It continued until the early 1980s.
The Model 19, aka, Combat Magnum, is built on the K frame.
I have a no-dash Model 66 in the stable myself.

Yes it does have recessed chambers and it is a k frame. I think they made these for 2 years before the model 19........................Curdog

There are, at most, 10,000 of those made before they began marking them M-19. This is a neat treasure.

The Combat Masterpiece got turbocharged and became the Combat Magnum thanks to Bill Jordan and Skeeter and S&W I believe. Great score, amigo.

One caution learned the hard way by my late FIL. The flat along the bottom of the rear of the barrel is a weak spot. MY FIL cracked his with 357 Magnum ammo with 125gr HP bullets. S&W replaced the barrel and sent a note to avoid the high-velocity ammo, which is very hard on the forcing cone. I now own that M-19 and my max load is a 38SPL+P and no high speed HPs.

You will enjoy that revolver.
I have a pre model 14 target masterpiece and it shoots wonderfully.
