Been shooting my new 327 toy,,think its gonna be a real nice shooter, but the chrono results are wild.fast burners do alright,,30es and 20 sd,,,but any of the slow burners are 100-180 fps es,,with sd in the 70,s.been playing with crimps and primers,,aint got it figured out yet.

Slow burners sometimes need full or close to full power loads and to nearly fill the case.

And a strong crimp.

A lot of powders tend to perform in a certain pressure range. Slower power tend to get better as pressure goes up as they burn more efficiently there.

Old timers will remember the warning not to reduce Win 296 but load as written in the manuals. A solid crimp, good neck tension, primer, even firing pin strike can affect the slower powers.

^^^^this.

I load a lot of .357mag for my 4" revolver. I use 700X for lower power loads and Blue Dot for full power. Full power Blue Dot, 1350fps 140gn LSWC, 50fps es and 20sd. Less crimp and it goes up to 100fps es. 700X at 1000fps with same bullets is just over 50% case fill but gives 40es and less than 15sd. Still needs a firm crimp or it gets erratic as well. I use magnum primers for both.

Good advice on firm crimps, near max loads. Good bullet pull is required, also try small rifle primers.
