First off, I am not selling these, or fishing, etc
I have two 1911 45 acp barrels found in a basement (long story). No markings that I can see.
But, what do you do with them? Refinish them, hang them on the wall.

We keep finding gun parts - sights, mags, etc - and we already found one handgun hidden in a rag (1891 Forehand Arms).
We found an empty Winchester box, and a mag for a M100 .308, but no Winchester.
I'll search again for a 1911, and anything else, before the house is sold.

Put them up for sale, found as is. They are probably milsurp, probably a letter on them somewhere that might denote maker.

I'm doing the leg work for the family - they're not mine to sell. I'm thinking that if I remove some of the rust, I'll find some markings. Are these barrels gun-specific?

No, they're not particularly gun-specific. Should fit all G.I. pistols and most commercial pistols, with the exception of course of those with the feed ramp as an integral part of the barrel. How are the bores?

The bores need a good cleaning but the rifling looks good. I think I see the letter P on one.

I was going to mention that a letter P was Colt manufactured, an S on the side of the recoil lug would mean High Standard, a lot of different vendors made and supplied those barrels to the US military, used to see them in bins at gun shows by the hundreds. There are online resources that you can tell exactly who made any and every single part of the 1911 and 1911A1 pistols.

You can find every tiny detail of the parts used in these pistols here: http://www.coolgunsite.com/pistols/1911infopage.htm

After I clean them up, I'll see if they fit my Rock Island 45. I've gotten several pretty cool items from this "estate sale" or settlement, whatever you call it, and I always offer a decent price for each item, even though I don't have to. Keep the inlaws happy.
