Have a nurse visit my house twice a week to redo a uniboot due to me getting open sores on my legs from diabetes. So one of my nosy neighbors decides to tell my wife. My wife cracks up and couldn't stop laughing. Neighbor says she just wanted to let my wife know a strange woman is coming to your house. My wife is well aware of the nurse and is usually here when she comes. So my wife tells me about it. I crack up and asks which nosy neighbor it is. When she tells me off I go laughing again. And this is the same person who I caught going through the mail in my mail box. Said nosy neighbor was complaining about getting here mail box damaged. Told her she's lucky as I saw two lightening bolts come down on her mail box one summer. Frank

That is a problem waiting to happen.
she's probably a damacrat to boot.
I would stay away from her.
She's bound to make you give up your firearms.

Well... bright side is that your wife has a friend that cares!! Heck of a lot more than most can say.
I have had similar experiences, and it truly feels amazing that your spouse can laugh it off!! (DEFINITELY more than most can say!!)

We are blessed with neighbors that mind their own business, but will come running if needed. We do the same.

And in the little town where we lived many years and brought up a family, we did too, at least the adjacent ones. I love small towns and we may move back into that house one day, but small towns have that nagging problem of everybody knowing everybody else's business and there seem to be an increasing number of the types out there who I prefer to not know me or me know them very well.

I'd have told her, Oh, it's nothing to worry about . . . it's just our bi-weekly "swingers" get together."

Kind of reminds me when I was a kid and we all had "party lines" . . . we had one neighbor lady who must have spent the greater part of her day listening in on other's phone conversations. More than once I heard my Dad. when he finished up with a phone call, speak loudly into the phone, Did you get all of that Mrs. "X", or do you need me to write it all down for you?" It was a blessed day when we were finally able to get a private line.

Reminds me of an old saying;

"Do you know the definition of a small town? It's where everybody knows who's check is good & who's husband ain't!"

Nosy people like that can be a pain.
But going into my mailbox,, I would call the cops, the postmaster general, & a federal officer I know. She'd get so many "legal" types visiting her, that she'd have bigger worries than what I'm doing.

We ( my wife and I) both worked at the same place. A couple of the older ladies decided they had to inform her I was " keeping time with a lady from the can plant". Her reply was good hes leaving me alone then. After that the 3 of us went to lunch and break together ( holding hands along the way).

I have a neighbor who s constantly watching, taking pictures, Twice Ive seen a drone around house and building suspect its her but cant prove it. It is a royal pain having to be on your toes all the time.

People like that are everywhere. I think of them as 'Evinrudes in the septic tank'. Nothin' better to do but snoop around and gossip.

For these reasons I was 'social distancing' long before it was a catch phrase.

I grew up with a guy whose mother was like as described. She was involved in everyone's business. She'd do anything for you buy just had to know.
My wife and I were separated for a while and she caught wind of it so at some gathering, I wasn't there but my mom was, she went to my mom and told her "I know what's going on with them if you want to talk about it." My mom took her at face value even though she didn't have a clue. Pumping my mom for personal information because she just "Had to know" pissed me off to no end.

Do you not have a shotgun? A 12ga with a load of #8 shot will fix a nosy drone. Unfortunately nosy neighbors can't be dealt with that way.

Too bad you can't get the frequency the drone uses and jam the signal or take it over and it "accidentally" crashes in to a tree!!
Use a slingshot--quiet!!!

Or get your own drone and take out the offending one or follow it back home to see who is controlling it. Record everything if you follow it back.

I'm fortunate to live in a neighborhood where everyone minds their own business. We are here to help each other, but what we do on our own property is no one's business but our own.

The wife and I lucked out on neighbors. The block is roughly 100 yards long with only 4 houses. We're the old folks. All the other couples are in their early 40's now. Been here going on 18 years and no problems, with a couple of exceptions due to a rent house across the street. Finally, a young couple with 3 boys bought it and they've all grown up and turning out good.

Across the back alley, is a whole different story! Thank God for fenced alleys. One fella owns the only two houses and they're low (and I do mean low) end rent houses. I like to sit on my back deck and watch squirrels, make phone calls, or just get some fresh air. I'm not sure which is more entertaining, the squirrels or backdoor neighbors. I'm not intentionally spying, but when it's in your face there's not a lot you can do about it.

Had a party line when I was growing up. Old lady across the alley was ALWAYS listening so we staged a murder. Screaming in th ebackgound "I am going to kill you" fired a blank from a pistol, sound of a body hitting the floor and more screaming "you killed him".

Cops show up... no body, no blood.. hey where did you hear someone was killed here? X across the alley called it in. Oh really, how did she know? That is 200 feet away. Well she said she heard it on the phone... as we started laughing... cop caught on and said "You didn't!". He ticketed her for listening in on somebody else's phone call, plus the phone company went after her...

I can't see any other of the 4 houses on our farm from my house and the families inside share my last name. Locals call it " The Compound".
I'm very big on private property rights and have met peddlers and non Baptists on my front porch with a casually held double barrel shotgun a few times -much to my wife's chagrin- as I calmly tell them about trespassing in Texas and politely ask them to leave.

Aren't neighbors great? I've got one neighbor lady who called the city about "Unauthorized construction and excavation in a riparian zone". And left the same note by the creek/irrigation ditch for us to see, big capital letters and exclamation points, also saying "I'VE TURNED YOU IN TO THE CITY!!!"
That prompted a trip down to the city hall explaining it was two boys, 7 and 10, playing in the creek and doing what boys do. They said "Yeah, we know. We've been out an looked at the complaint. Don't worry about it, there's nothing wrong, I hope your boys are having fun."
"Well, you'd better go back out and calm her down before she says something to my wife, or you'll have a bigger problem to solve". They must have, that was 20 years ago and the lady still won't look at me.
She did, however, tell my wife we need to build a fence, the deer keep coming from our yard into hers and eating her flowers. Now she won't talk to my wife either.
Sometimes life turns out OK.

I live alone and they keep an eye out for strangers and/or, if I hurt myself and need help.
Last time I was up on the roof, cleaning my chimney, I noticed a couple of my "Gladys Kravitz" neighbors watching me, LOL.

While I really DO NOT like “drones” that is TERRIBLE advice. The FAA has decided that “drones” are aircraft and shooting at them is no different than shooting at a manned aircraft.

I read the title wrong, was thinking noisey neighbors, yeah, I guess I'm the noisey neighbor shooting out back all time. but fortunately don't have nosy neighbors.
aint hardly nobody ever come down the driveway unless they are invited. guess with the noisey neighbor stuff they know they might just get shot if they come around and up to no good. really good neighbors are not easy to come by these days and the few good neighbors I do have are treasured and we all look out for and help one another all the time.

I'm 80 now. I'm no shrink but over the years I've watched several snoops up close. I've come to the conclusion that, as a group, they are usually (1) snotty people who have few or no friends, even within their families. Therefore, they (2) spend much of their time trying to get some shreds of dirt on others so they can repeat it (gossip) and be self important for a few days.

All that used to make me angry. Now it just makes me sad that their empty lives only have brief scraps of importance when trying to stir up troubles by attempting to destroy the reputations and relationships of their betters.

I guess I'm lucky. I've got great neighbors. We watch out for each other, watch each others places if someone is away, ect. I have farm land behind our house so there are no neighbors to the back and our lots are fairly large and the houses are away from the lot lines, so noise is not a problem.

Another nosy neighbor once told my wife she heard we were getting divorced. Been married 37 years. Wife came in and told me about the neighbor. Where the heck do these people come up with this stuff??. And this nosy neighbor is a completely different one from the last. Sometimes you really have to wonder. Frank

Well if you can't shoot at an unoccupied piece of machinery, then call the FAA and report someone is flying their aircraft below the legal limit over occupied areas. In believe the lower limit for flight over occupied areas is 500 feet.

You are completely within your right as a landowner to ask people to leave, but don't you think that is a rather ****ty attitude to have? If I were a random person who simply wanted to chat, you would tell me to leave without so much of a hello? Maybe in Texas things a different, but where I'm from visitors are rare, and everyone is welcome. I realize Texas is far more populated then where I've lived, so maybe someone shows up every week where you are.

I don't want to offend a religious group, but I guess you have not had the pleasure of CONSTANT interruptions by one group that goes door to door. The first dozen times you are polite but after telling each group to please not stop by, it gets old. That occurred awhile back as where I live now I have zero issues.

How's anybody gonna know? The drone just stops working and doesn't come back to the owner.

Nearest dwelling to me is more than a half mile away and I can't see any of them through the woods. If a drone is hovering over my place, I'm going to assume someone is watching me, likely to do me harm and I will take appropriate action, some of those 3 1/2 inch goose loads should do it.

All door knocking religious groups that come around are hurriedly directed to nosy neighbors house post haste to deliver the word

Since I tell said religious group, I'm good where I'm at with the Lord, But you see that house over there, I point in the direction needed..

Those people over there need Help !!! They own a bar-room/strip joint and do all kinds of un-godly things at night !!! Probably drugs too !!!

Around here, strangers just wanting to chat or get a glass of water are often scoping the place to come back later. If I don't know you and you show up on my property without a legitimate purpose to be there, you will be escorted off very quickly.

I have no idea of your situation up north, just like you have no idea of my situation down here. With privacy dwindling away as we speak, so are respect and manners.

I am out in the country here but in Northwest Ohio its grown up a lot more. Its interesting in that these people moved to get away from the cities now want to change the area to just what they moved to get away from.

This neighbor moved next door 4-5 years after we bought our place and were okay, But as time went on things changed. She first started on the pallet company ( established 1971 roughly 20 years before her) and a new trucking company ( She drove them out to a different area). They now run 1 or 2 businesses from their home and thats okay by them. She then became obsessed with property values and "improving" the area and started in on all the neighbors. Then She got appointed to the zoning board and really went off on her cause. She actually told one family They had mourned long enough and to get the sons property cleaned up. We now have to pull a permit for a side walk. When the new garage was being built she was out watching every day the contractors were here. The day we moved the shop equipment she was out watching the millwrights. She has been seen taking pics of my son mowing the lawn several times.

She was complaining about the farmer across the road to the township. One of the trustees mentioned it to me I told him that Deere 4 wheel drive is worth more than her house.

I tried being a good neighbor and working with them but thats over now. I simply ignore them and expect the same

Nobody is going to let someone just show up and set up shop for no reason. You would at least say hello, and see what the want right? Say a guy and some kids showed up, and you find out they would like to fish the lake behind your house. You would at least hear them out that far, and say yes or no.

Sitting on a front porch waiting for anyone to show up, and saying get lost without discretion is a horrible attitude to have.

This morning at 12:22am I heard 8-9 gunshots. Went out on my front porch to scope out what was going on. I could hear loud yelling from the neighbor on the corner (probably 200 yards away). Big argument, I thought about calling the police, but Mike is kind of an *****, potentially a dangerous situation for the cops. So I just went back inside and went to bed. Guess I am not nosy enough.

Now the rest of the story: My daughter, who knows Mike, came over and asked if I had heard gunshots last night. Seems Mike and his girlfriend had had another couple over for monopoly and the visitor took exception to a comment by Mike which started an argument. Mike started yelling for them to leave his property. The visiting female pulled a gun so Mike pulled his gun and shot their car full of holes. I heard the word car a few times so evidently the argument I heard was about a holey car. Evidently the visiting male then beat Mike up before the cops (called by someone else) showed up. Cop decided shooting was self defense so Mike didn't get charged with discharging a firearm and no arrests were made.

Moral of the story: If you are going to shoot someone car full of holes you had better have a second magazine or leave a few rounds in the first magazine.

I strongly suspect that Mike will try to find out who called the police. Many a LEO is aware of the Mike's out there and even they tread easily around them due tot heir unpredictable nature. One a few miles down the road was notorious for pulling handguns on power, cable and phone line crews.

Green Valley AZ is an unincorporated town in Pima county: a couple square miles of old people living fifty feet apart. Pastor says we have organ recitals, we tell you all about our organs. We watch and watch out for each other. Some of us can still drive a car, and some shouldn't try. Some old women are actually crazy probly always were nuts, especially the Cali imports. I don't think anybody would hear a gunshot, they are all deaf. The only action at night is the Sheriff and Border Patrol prowling all night. We get a steady supply of doorknockers, JW and soulwinners, I'm glad to see them, have them in pass out water bottles and see if I can save them. Lately the JWs skip my house, they go tiptoe past. My daughter's house has no neighbors between her and the Santa Ritas up in the high desert. The illegal invasion is not a worry, rather an awareness, been going on for years. There's a fence around the place and I know an excellent sermon about fences:
When you come to a fence you should wonder why it's there. It might be for your own protection.
